I was given, about 10 years ago a small paper image with green cord around it by a carmalite cloistered nun in Scotland, she only sees people outside the cloister about 3 times a year and so it was a big occasion. This thing I was given has on the back the written words Agnus dei and then a small piece of yellowish thin piece of something with a little mark showing where it is. It is obvious hand made, does anyone know what this is?
I Google it but only came up with agnus dei wax. But I don’t know what that is. Please help!

Here is a link to EWTN’s website about the Agnus Dei. It is a Catholic sacramental. The link is to an article that describes the Agnus Dei:

Angus Dei means “Lamb of God.”

The only issue is that it is a very small piece of what ever it is, is it possible that this convent has given some wax and then decided to turn it into smaller versions without the lamb stamp?

If I were you I would contact the convent and find out what it is that you have, if that’s possible.

It’s hard for us to know for sure without us seeing a picture of it. 🙂

Yes – convents often melted down a larger “Agnus Dei” and placed tiny pieces of it in a hand-sewn embroidered casing, or into a heart-shaped slide charm.

You can often find them for sale on Ebay.
