The last time a JW came to my door they tried the whole “God has a name thing, do you want to know it?” and my response was “Nope.” The woman just looked at me dumbfounded, didn’t know what to say. I said “Thanks a bunch” and shut the door on her. LOL.

Ha ha! I like your answer! If one of them, or should I say, two of them, ever showed up here and set in with their classic, “Wouldn’t you like to live in a paradise where everyone is happy and the grass is always green, and there are always rainbows” or however it goes, I would likewise say, “nope,” and proceed to tell them about what heaven is actually all about (union with God, the Blessed Trinity, of course). That’s what I want. The perfect joy, love, peace, and fulfillment that comes with being united with God - “divinized.” Everything else is secondary, icing on the cake as it were. Actually, “everything else” is a reflection of God.

I’m pretty sure Jehova Witnesses visited my house once. I could see through the fogged window that they wore long black overcoats and wide brimmed black hats. But, since I was in middle school at the time, and the only one home I refused to answer the door.

And, since that remains my only experience with them… I have to say I don’t really approve. All it takes is 2 big men in their 30s or 40s to dress up like Jehova’s Witnesses, find a house where only a woman or children are at home. And boom. They avoid the B&E bc the door is open, go for assault and battery, and robbery/ theft.

And if they were real Jehovas Witnesses they could’ve dragged me off just the same! If you want to do door to door evangelism then you shouldn’t look so intimidating. I disapprove :dts:

To be fair, they probably don’t know it’s Holy Thursday. (I had never even heard of it before joining the catholic church.)

They commemorate the Last Supper, but ive forgotten whether its on Holy Thursday or some other day. Got invited once…
When they bring up the "Gods name" business, remind them of "Our Father......". But theyve probably changed that as well.

Yup, had a couple of JWs knock on the door a few weeks ago. They seemed to be such nice people, but my heart always goes out to them because of the stress involved in living as a member of a cult.

I try to tell them that it’s wonderful that they have such strong faith, especially in this modern world, and thank them for being concerned for my salvation. I also try to tell them that I’m concerned with their salvation and that I’m sorry that they placed their faith in a their group, but that God appreciates their sincerity, obedience and love.

I try and recommend that they try and look impartially at the Catholic Faith from Catholic sources and decide for themselves if perhaps there is more to God than they know, and then I wish them all the best in their walk with God.

I use the same start. When they tell me they are Jehovah’s Witnesses, I tell them I am deeply sorry. It is true and it allows me to talk to them. That gets things away from the canned presentation they hope to deliver and gives me a chance to share my faith.

I have to confess I put Her there to keep them away. She just seems to attract them. I guess She tends to draw those to Her unwillingly or otherwise. Every Catholic in the neighborhood has stopped to say we put Her in the perfect place.

As a Catholic I am drawn to her statues. It’s funny because I look for her whenever I’m in a religious building. It’s weird to me now to step into non-Catholic churches and there are NO statues. It’s just… empty. Somehow.

I just answered the door to a pair of JWs a few minutes ago. They were handing out invitations to the memorial of Jesus’ death.

I kindly took it, looked inside and handed the pamphlet back to them telling them that I am a church goer. They thanked me and off they went.

I think your quote is important. I’d like to point out that you are so right about the emptyness in non-Catholic Churches and I think that emptyness is the lack of The Blessed Sacrament in The Tabernacle. Jesus in The Blessed Sacrament is powerful and the devil knows this. It is the most hated place of the devil, and the Confessional is the second most hated place of the devil because he knows the healing power both contain.

Praise God for giving us such beautiful and loving gifts.

Perhaps, if we as Catholics have not made a trip to the confessional yet this year or this Lenten Season, Confessional Monday at all Parishes from 3-9pm would be in order. Ask your Pastor!

They woke me up from a nap about a week ago inviting me to a memorial service for Jesus as well. I told them I wasn’t interested, but that I hoped they had a wonderful Easter

Well now they delight in really “trying to save me” by sticking notes on my door inviting me to a presentation to listen to a speaker talk about Who Jesus Really Is. The presentation is on Holy Thursday! Do they really think that I would show up on Holy Thursday of all days! Of course NOT. I already know who Jesus is and my obedience is to the One, True Church where the fullness of His Truth is revealed. The One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. Amen!

I found one of those flyers on my door today.

But one needs to be properly disposed and prepared to give those answers - and have the time too.

St Paul speaks of different ones having different gifts.
Some of us are not so disposed with the gift of preaching and argument as to make good evangelists in such situations. That said, I agree that we ALL are able, and need to be, loving and gentle in our responses to these people.

Mt 5:43-45 43 "You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.

John 13:34-35 “34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Yes, well prepared. Thats why “always be ready” is a key phrase and implies much. Different gifts? Of course. Having the gift of discernment with JWs will help you beyond measure.

Hello. This is my first post and JW’s, among other things, is something I wanted to get other’s thoughts on. I work from home and they have picked up on this so, their visits is often. I’m having a hard time telling them that I’m not interested because I feel like I’m being rude. I know I can simply not answer but they know I am home. I put all info the trash. How can I tell them to stop?

I saw someone posted that 7th Day Adventist also go door to door. My recently ex-boyfriend is an Adventist and told me they don’t go door to door (he seemed offended when I asked). I soon found out they do. It’s considered their community service (he said he doesn’t do it but others in the church do). He doesn’t want to talk about his religion so I did my own research and was blown away but that another thread.

I’m very much the same way, especially because it’s usually the same couple that come knocking and they ARE nice people. What you can do is put up a sign on your door saying " Please, no solicitation, religious or otherwise, Thank you" That might take care of your situation.
