HELP!!! I was talking to my youth leader at our meeting tonight. We got on the subject of abortion and how it is not a womans right. Well then we got on womens rights and she supports women’s ordination. I love her to death and she is really awesome and does alot for us but this bothers me. What should I do?

Hi. Thank God that she is anti-abortion!
Regarding her belief on women’s ordination, perhaps you can give her the Church’s viewpoint if you know it well or have researched the arguments and the authority…and give her a written copy of everything you have regarding this, so that’s she’s informed

…but as for influencing her position, no amount of facts can change a person’s emotional or intellectual position even in the face of the facts, unless they’re open to it. There are two reasons why a person might cling to the idea of women’s ordination, the shortage of priests, and a sense of injustice…oh, a third, the desire to serve in this amazing way that is the priesthood!

Thank you soo much! I emailed her and asked her not to get offended because I do repect everyone’s opinion but I want people to know the truth. I think women would play a great role in the priesthood and i think priests would function better with families but Christ and his Holy Church have said otherwise and i know they know better than I so I submit to the magisterium.

It’s best to respect her position, even if you don’t agree. God knows I don’t, but what can you do?

But if it’s really that important to you, consider this: It is a woman’s body until something or someone occupies. :yup:

She is pro-life!!! the issue is women’s ordination. we just finished making our abortion cemetary in the front of our church that will stay out until the end of Febuary with schedualed prayer services often. She was in charge.

You might try pointing out to her that not even all MEN may become priests. It’s really quite an obstacle course to the priesthood.

This is not a statement about the woman the op was talking about but I am relating something that happened a few years ago. Every year just before Easter a group of women go and protest in front of the Cathedral in Providence, RI-what they are protesting are their desire for women to become priests in the catholic church. One year a talk radio host interviewed these woman and he asked them a couple of questions. One of the questions were: Do you want to become priests? They said yes. The other question was do you go to church? Some said no… and others answered once in a while. And the other question was there are other demoninations that women are allowed to preach in why don’t you go to those denominations? And their answer was that they think that the catholic church is male dominated, and too oppressive towards women and the Pope is a chauvinist and needs to be put in his place . Never during the course of the interview did they state anything about loving & serving God…(I knew that part would surprise you). Everytime I hear about someone who thinks women should be able to be priests…I just remember from where this idea originated from…radical feminists…who think the catholic church is just another system of the “good ole boys”

she cannot serve as a leader in any capacity in a Catholic parish, particularly one that includes instructing and forming youth, if she supports abortion and women’s ordination. Please talk with your pastor immediately if this is really what she said.

In our diocese there are alot of wannabe’s that are women in capacity of leadership. But you know what…they are the ones we need to pray for.

They are everywhere but the faithful recognize that part of them and usually gently remind them that you can serve God in so many capacities that will lead others to God…being a priest is only one way. Ask God what is His will, not yours! That’s the difficult part of listening to discern His will.
