Have you ever considered that their success, as well as conservative talk show hosts (I mean Rush, Laura Ingraham, Michael Medved, etc…) might be successful because people are tired of listening to the biased news brought to us from CNN, ABC, NBC, and CBS???
No, because opinions are not news. Not reporting things from a christian conservative viewpoint is not the same as being biased. Reporting the news with what you think injected, as FOX does, is. But of course, what I said was that both the left commentators and the right were biased. What exact biases have those news programs committed? And no, reporting a negative story on the Church or Republicans if that story is news is not biased. To paint groups in a good or bad light and call it news is biased.

perhaps you should ask Air America:whistle:
Do you have a real answer, or just a lot of dodging? It’s awfully easy to pretend your “side” doesn’t pull any dirty tricks by simply ignoring them.

Of course, I’ve not argued that Air America was particularly balanced, but I get the sense that in this world, some people labor under the impression that their side is the only one who gets to be right. They cannot even countenance those who think realistically that both sides can be wrong or right depending on the situation.

Your original arguement was that these guys were loaded with hate, not bias. I simply pointed out that I didn’t think they were hateful.

To look at Hannity and Colmes makes it obvious that these guys are injecting their opinions into the news. I don’t think that Foxnews is trying to hide that.

P.S. I certainly hope I’m not confusing you with another poster with regards to the hateful comment. If I am, I’m terribly sorry.

You mean the milquetoast they hired for Hannity to look good next to? That proves a network that routinely picks sides is balanced?

Anyway, I see you are not interested in considering that maybe the right is ever the wrong, so I’ll drop the subject.
😃 That is so correct. I will never forget the first time I saw that show. Not only is he a milquetoast, but he barely makes arguments that are cogent.

Compare this to CNN’s Crossfire. Now that was an even match. For their conservative side they had Pat Buchanan, Robert Novak, and this red-headed Senator Dornan. They gave as good as they could get against the liberal du jour, and this on the so-called MSM with a liberal bias that we are always hearing about.

I am a conservative, but I can only listen to rush limbaugh for a few minutes at a time. My solution is to skip talk radio entirely and burn EWTN podcasts to CD and listen to them in my car.

Now that’s the best idea I’ve heard in a long time. I’ve done that with:
Fr. Corapi
Fr. Altier
Scott Hahn
John Martignoni
and
Tim Gray

I’m not concerned with how well they do their opinion shows. I’m concerned with how they handle the news. CNN has long emulated it’s previous owner Ted Turner in the way they handle the news.

Crossfire was cancelled by CNN two years ago becuase the Liberals who run the Network didnt like the voice it gave to conservatives. Novak has since joined Fox having been attacked viciously by James Carville on the Air for straying form the Liberal CNN line. Nowdays what passes for balance is Carville and Begalia debating on how evil Bush is.

How about right-wing radio? Some of those people are rabid and filled with hate. Rush Limbaugh, Michael Savage and that blond woman are the most vitriolic folks I’ve ever heard on the radio. I guess as long as the hate is directed towards Democrats that is acceptable.
When you make that statement about Rush Limbaugh, it tells me that you have never listened to him. Are you referring to Laura Ingraham? You obviously have not listened to her. Michael Savage? I can understand why you would say that. There’s no hate from the left towards Republicans? Say hello to Toto for me okay?

Colmes is pretty far left to me. What, he’s not rabid enough for you? Who would you choose to sit in his place? Hmm…your last comment, some might think the same about you:rolleyes:

Pick a random episode of the O’Reilly Factor. Or Hannity and Colmes. I have watched but can’t give an episode list; however, some general deeds of the right wing media (mostly Murdoch-controlled businesses) vs. left-wing media:

Treated an opposing guest unfairly:
LW: check
RW: Check

Reported opinions mixed with news:
LW: Check
RW: Check

Deliberately made the other side look bad with no opportunity for defense:
LW: Check
RW: Check

Seeing a pattern? FOX and friends have dived as low as Air America et al. Yet somehow, if it has a right-wing bias, it’s more true?
Hannity and Colmes and O’Reilly Factor are not news shows, they are opinion shows. The people on there, the hosts, are giving opinions. You must not have watched O’Reilly much. He calls many folks to task, liberal and conservative. But it is still an OPINION show.

Does one who does not rant and rave when expressing an opinion make him a milquetoast? I think not. Colmes has a different style than Hannity, but he gets his licks in most of the time. He is maddening in that he sermonizes before he ever gets around to a question, but that is his style.

He has good points and is a very intelligent man, but he does not take Hannity on in the best ways you know he can.

It could have been some sort of misunderstanding. Anyone who has experienced or seen real hatred knows you won’t get it from networks that have money to make.

Hannity & Colmes is a Debate show. The O’Reilly Factor is an Opinion/Analysis show. There are always two sides represented, then O’Reilly says, we’ll let the audience decide. At the end of his show he always reads viewer mail & it is amazing how two people can watch the same segment & see it two entirely different ways, usually one calling O’Reilly a Right-Winger & the other one calling him a Leftist! I think that’s pretty fair & balanced:) .

Right you are and well expressed.

Air America has failed because its ‘entertainment’ Hosts were unable to secure an audience. There really is no comparison between the talking heads on Air America and any conservative talk show host.

While Rush Limbaugh and others can be irritating and not share your politicall leanings they used language that you can listen to with a family. The Air America crowd used profanity almost excessively. Their message [if they had one] was lost in the vulgar language which most of America would not apprreciate it.

My parents taught us that intelligent conversasion did not include cursing but was based upon a good grasp of the english language.

IMHO even most liberals turned the dial. They would rather hear intelligent language from Rush Limbaugh even if they disagreed with the message than listen to “&^#/////!!**@ Bush” from Randi Rhodes or Al Franken.

I tried to listen to Air America…and I just could not. I did not like the message and could not stand the vulgarities.

Thanks to Air America, I lost one of my favorite talk radio programs: Phil Hendry. Maybe now that they’re filing Ch. 11, I might be able to get him back.
