when i am cleaning with strong chemicals and when there is a lot of dust around, i am miserable after i have completed cleaning… do any of you out there use masks to not inhale the bad stuff?

Just about every hardware store has aspirator masks.

Do you really need strong chemicals to clean? Vinegar and baking soda are good cleaning agents, and aren’t bad for your respiratory system. Maybe you can use something like this, and occasionally use the stronger ones.

You can find masks at hardware stores. They look like the ones that doctors use, and you should be able to find more effective ones there, too.

Be sure to read what the mask protects you from before you buy it. There are different types, not all will protect you from the same things.

I do woodworking and always wear a dust mask when I am sanding. When I’m applying finishes, I will wear a filtering respirator type. I do not care if they say it is safe, 20 years from now they will figure out it is a carcinogen or causes brain damage or something.

I have bad allergies and find that I get sick after doing a lot of cleaning just from the dust that is stirred up. I have used a paper filter mask and that has helped. I also use air filters to keep the air clean.
