I know even the word itself means not to sit but say I’m at my Roman church saying it alone before Liturgy should I still stand? Or If I can sleep at night?
Thanks!

If you are unable to physically stand during an Akathist in church, or it pains your legs to stand too long, then common sense tells you to sit down. I don’t see how that is a problem.

What do you mean about sleeping at night? Do you mean praying it while in bed? Prayer is prayer, do what makes you feel comfortable as long as your prayer to the Lord comes from your heart.

One bit of wisdom I picked up someplace: Pray as you can; not as you can’t. 👍

I remember reading an Orthodox Father advising people to pray the Jesus Prayer lying down, if they must, but to keep saying it . . .

The term “akathistos” or “nesidalen” is a liturgical reference regarding the posture of people iin Church during liturgical prayer - when we read akathists and canons by ourselves, any posture goes.

I’ve read akathists half asleep slumped over semi-sitting in bed. I think it’s fine.
