As you can see in my post, I highlighted the specific quote I was responding, too–which seemed to be IMHO a little mean-spirited–especially when we are considering disturbing issues like the infant mortality rate in the state of Alabama.
I do not like the argument “why doesn’t Alabama work on improving its “X,Y or Z condition” before they criminalize abortion”.

We can work to do all of the above simultaneously. We can work to improve quality of life for children in poverty AND make abortion illegal.

fj2020 had a fair point about infant mortality here in Alabama.

Without finding the exact statistics that I read recently. Alabama, not surprisingly, has one of the highest infant mortality rates in the nation. I mean, you’d expect the poorer states to have the higher rates. Alabama, Mississippi, West Virginia. Without looking up the stats, of course these states have higher rates.

The number of children that will be born in Alabama if abortion is outlawed (and Roe overturned) will be thousands. 6,500 were aborted in 2017.
I just did the math for infant mortality. Alabama is 49th in the nation for infant mortality. The rate is 7.5 children per 1,000 births.

In 2017 there were 59,000 births. So, roughly 450 babies died during child birth. 450 lives vs. 6,500 killed by abortion that year.

These people are always disingenuous. They would NEVER actually calculate that like I just did. They just say, “Alabama has the one of the worst infant mortality rates”. Its basically FAKE NEWS folks

Given the current statistics, there doesn’t seem to be too much enthusiasm by the Alabama legislature for the first part of that sentence.
One can hope we will.

I am waiting for a third party to emerge. I really dislike Republicans and Democrats.

There are many people that simultaneously hold views considered conservative by liberals and liberal by conservatives and we really do not have a voice.

What percentage of people wanted segregation in the South? Majority rules isn’t how this country works. And the Supreme Court isn’t going to consider opinion polls when it approaches abortion.

Roe v. Wade will one day be regarded similarly to Dred Scott or Plessy v. Ferguson. And, 50 years or so is a lot shorter than the amount of time the Supreme Court condoned slavery and segregation.

It is a crime to perform an abortion but not a crime to ask for it, pay for it, and allow it to be done?

I think it’s that way because women who seek abortions are seen as victims too in this instance. There is a huge pro abortion lobby with lots of propaganda influencing these women’s decisions. Not to mention all sorts of other factors coming in to play.

What percentage of Germans voted for Hitler? What percentage of people would be ok with paying no taxes whatsoever?

Thank GOD we are not a pure democracy.

Women, especially women of certain demographics (refer to Margaret Sanger and her support of eugenics…), are preyed on by the abortion industry/Planned Parenthood. After decades of influence, many have been made to feel like they don’t have a choice but to abort, and “one simple, safe procedure” can make it all better so they can get their lives back on track. In this way, they are victims of propaganda and greed. Abortions are easy, fast cash money, and as Abby Johnson has exposed for us, the “abortion quota” is a very real, very active thing in PP clinics. Planned Parenthood tries to make the idea of abortion more cushy by altering their language about the abortion process and the realities of what they’re doing. The abortion providers are thus WAY more culpable for the deaths, not to mention that they are actually, literally, ending those lives…not the mother.

Social Media’s response should provide a learning experience for those who only frequent chat rooms and internet forums that are limited to views similar to their own. There is a diversity of opinions out there on this topic and other “hot button” ones…
I agree. The pro-abortion crowd should actually try to learn about the science and philosophy against abortion instead of shouting shallow lines like “punishing women” or drawing pictures of harming a woman governor for signing a bill.

The Alabama law criminalizes the doctors who perform the abortions. The women are considered as victims.

That’s right, folks can spend a lot of time agreeing with one another. In the meantime—. 57% of Americans oppose overturning Roe v. Wade, while 21% are in favor of doing that.
It’s true that survey after survey does show the majority are in the middle and want to ban late term abortions but not in the first trimester.
