ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) – A recent string of lawsuits accusing Roman Catholic priests of molesting children has reinforced suspicions among some critics of the church that remote Alaska was a dumping ground for problem clergy.

Personally, I think it is not true. RCC is under attack from all angles.

Oh, maybe it’s the long winters that make people more unbalanced and depressed.

I have to disagree with that article as well…if anything, we’re a dumping ground for bad Bishops… 😃

Seriously- Those villagers have enough problems without lawyers trying to make more. They’re exactly the kind of places that you could easily get false testimonies…most of the rural areas are very poor, and have a myriad of social problems. Depression, drug-use (…they can’t afford the ‘good stuff’ so they tend to huff paint & glue), serious problems with alcoholism, physical & emotional abuse, and sexual abuse (non-priest related)…

Nah, the winters aren’t THAT bad.

I think juneua priests rock. 🙂 Very good men trying to do good things for the community. I think the problem up here just looks bigger since we are such a big state with a small population. SO if your barrel only has 5 apples instead of 50 and one goes bad its a much higher percentage.

Jodi you make a very good point here. If you live there, then you would be more the judge of what is happening than CNN.
