Speaking from the point of view of an altar server…The Cassock looks alot better, and you feel “holier” in it (as such you are generally better behaved.) But the alb sure is nice to have on a hot day.

I have my own cassock from some nuns and a priest. I haven’t gotten to wear it in about a year. Darn it! Now I want to wear it again…

The alb alone tends to make one look like a Druid. It just has a pagan aura about it. Plus, many who wear it tend to be too casual with their foot attire. I’ve seen sneakers and sandals and flip-flops.
The cassock and the surplice on the other hand looks more holy, and remember we are body as well as spirit, so our path to holiness is effected through our senses. I personally feel as though I’m surrounded by holiness when I see the altar populated by a priest with unique vestments and altar boys, not altar servers, with their cassock and surplice. Such a scene connotes a reverence and a respect for Catholic tradition which is badly needed in our age of ever pervasive casualness.

Very well put…

The results of this poll have been a bit surprising, and more than a bit educational for me…

Pagan Aura :bigyikes: The alb is the garment of the baptized and serves to remind the one wearing it of their baptism. In the rite of baptism the clothing of the child is accompanied by the following prayer N. you have become a new creation and have clothed yourself in Christ. See in this white garment the outward sign of your Christian dignity. With your family and friends to help you by word and example, bring that dignity unstained into the everlasting life of heaven.
