Albs @ pope's mass?

I noticed the servers were wearing albs rather than a cassock and a surplice or cotta at the Mass on New Years at St. Peter’s. Is this change to show the difference between the ordained and the non-ordained? I think the albs looked better on the servers.
 
I think that technically, any baptised person may wear an alb.

You don’t have to be ordained to wear a cassock and surplice, or to wear an alb.

In my parish, the servers, who of course are unordained, for years used to wear albs; a couple of priests ago that was changed to them wearing a cassock and surplice. It’s based on the preference of the priest. In our parish’s case, the priest wanted a more traditional feel.

I don’t think it is a more traditional feel when you also have ordained males taking part in the Mass who are not concelebrants. There may have been other reasons but it looked very traditional to have ordained non-concelebrants (MCs) in cassock/surplice and the servers in amice/alb. Also made things less confusing in a way.
