Did anyone else drink 0.05 percent wine when pregnant or for an alternative? I’ve read that it’s safe (no more content than orange juice ) but just wanted to be sure. I am sick of soda, tea, hot chocolate etc

I don’t think I have ever heard of that. But I would probably not have had it anyway.

My SIL did. I’m not a huge fan of wine myself. I drink regular wine (when not pregnant) but not just for taste. So I haven’t.

Yeah you would need to drink 113 pints of it to equal one unit

It’s kinda like bitter grape juice. I’m trying some right now. Just good for a change. What I didn’t know until recently was that orange juice and bread contains like 0.5 - 1 percent naturally. Also soy sauce etc

I think it is best togged advice from your doctor. Most of the things you mention have high sugar levels.

I avoid alcohol but my body has almost nothing in common with a pregnant woman’s! However, my drinks include: Kambucha (non-alcoholic) 0% beer, club soda and bitters and sparkling water.

Yeah I have a gestational diabetes test on Monday just to make sure and I will check. Online advice seems to be a thumbs up. This whole glass contains 5 gram of sugar which is lots better than wine. I really do think it’s great that the market has finally brought out things for those of us trying to cut back or have a proper grown up drink without the alcohol. I’ll probably think about staying alcohol free after the birth too apart from very occasionally

No but when my wife was pregnant I didn’t drink at all. I’m not sure why anyone would want it, that’s like decaffeinated tea of sugarless chocolate.

Yep already got plenty of decaf tea 🙂 it’s a ‘placebo‘ of sorts tbh because you get sick and tired of water and soft drinks and realistically that’s all you can have.

We cannot give medical advice. Do the research, make informed decisions.

Grape juice would be alcohol free wine…it only becomes alcohol when you add yeast and extra sugar and let it ferment.
Welch makes a carbonated grape juice, for those like myself that cannot have alcohol.
Also Welch’s grape juice is a great way to get extra fiber and other nutrients.
I have heard that although not quite as good as red wine, a glass full of grape juice adds a lot of the same heart benefits…

I feel like I’m making the right choice as am sensible but just wanted to know if anyone else had made same choice

Apple ciders are good (natural sugars) and natural grape and orange juice also…pretty much anything without high fructose corn syrup…
I used to make wine and home-brew, now I do not drink due to health problems. We used to grow our own grapes and make wine too.
In fact a lot of the old Germans 'round here would take a bottle of grape juice, add a little extra sugar and some yeast and put it in a gallon jug with one of those big Sock-O balloons over it…when the ballon filled then went down, walla!, you have poor mans wine 😎
But I have had a Cider Boys strawberry/apple cider that tastes just like strawberry wine…it was good but I could only have one.

In fact the way Belgian whit beers came about is that the monks would fast often, so they came up with a concoction of grains, fruit and honey and other spices (like cinnamon, anise, ect.) and it was a grog full of nutrients that would sustain them.
Well, they left these ceramic containers out in the open, and along came bees who landed on it and along with the natural occurring yeast basically “open pollenated” and it then fermented and developed alcohol content. (which is the little yeast’ies eating the sugar and expelling C02 creating alcohol…same with wine)
That’s how Belgium monks created their famous biers.

Next time your at the grocery store look in the juice aisle and you will see a bottle of Welch’s grape juice that looks like a wine or Champaign bottle, with foil on it…give it a try…

Yeah you would need to drink 113 pints
Challenge accepted!!

But seriously folks, my wife bought some when she was pregnant with our first. From what I remember it was pretty terrible and she ended up throwing it away…

Water with a bit of lemon?
I’ve heard women say they got a bunch of cavities when they were pregnant. I see why when there’s a ton of sugary drinks available.

It’s cold here so most of the time I drink hot water.
