Easter Joy got it right on the button.

And,…just to clarify…if you are deliberately trying to get drunk that can be a sin. If you are not deliberately trying to get drunk but when you DO imbibe alcohol you find you cannot stop drinking until you are drunk, you may (and the operative word here is ‘may’) be someone with the disease of alcoholism.

If you are a moderate, normal social drinker the thought that you may have a drinking problem just doesn’t come up. It is weird…normal drinkers are just that- normal.

I don’t get them…I think they’re weird.🤷

I drink a beer almost every evening with dinner. Aside from that I don’t really drink that much. If I go out to the bars or clubs with friends I monitor my intake to make sure I am drinking no more than one drink per hour.

Drinking alcohol is not a sin, but getting drunk and losing the ability to be a conscious and willful person is a mortal sin.

Any opinions please are welcome.Do you think if my husband and I usually on a Sunday evening enjoy playing music and having a few drinks /we usually end up falling asleep on the couch and then head to bed he is 71 I am 67 would this be mortal or venial any body know
I happen to think this is beautiful 🙂 thank you. Haha. God bless you. I think God just might love you most of all. One for the fact that you do that with your husband and two because you ask if it’s ok 🙂

Paz y amor

In answer, why? Why do you feel you need to drink? Nobody NEEDS to drink.
That is a fallicy. Nobody NEEDS to drink. Life is beautiful without drink.

Drink is a drug.

After a any drug is used for a while, the drug loses its initial effect.
Then a stronger portion of the drug is needed to get the same effect.
That is the nature of a drug.

There is also the good effect of not drinking.

You offer it to Jesus. Mortification.

Doing things is easier because the mind can think clearly without it.
It has a seditive effect and makes starting and doing things harder.

So why?

Social grace?

Fulton Sheen at gatherings held a drink in his hand but never drank any of it.

The last I saw, alcohol is America’s no 1 problem.

If you don’t start, you won’t miss a thing.

Just a suggestion.

Catholics don’t think drinking is a sin.

In my experience very little good comes from getting mad with it though, haha.

If you’ve never had any alcohol, you won’t know how it will affect you. As others have noted, best to start with some food. Also, a little bar trick I learned long ago–alternate alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

My mother couldn’t handle alcohol at all. One drink for her was like four for a normal person. In contrast, my father could drink straight vodka all night and you’d never know it. So go easy till you know your tolerance level. 🙂
