ALERT: Southpark and the BVM on New Zealand TV

I got an email this morning that is just sickening. My friend wrote:

"I heard Martin Devlin on Radio Live this morning 702AM downcrying and going really crook as a Catholic about the Southpark cartoon that C4 television are planning to show in May – it desecrates the Virgin Mary by showing her as a statue bleeding from her bottom and spraying the blood on the crown and shows Pope Benedict drinking the blood. What a blasphemy!

Martin Devlin is calling for all Catholics to protest by calling in to TV3 / C4 tonight at phone 377 9730 and asking that your call be logged and that if they go ahead and show this Southpark Cartoon on the Virgin Mary in May then you will stop watching TV3 news and switch to TV1 news.

Martin Devlin says he reckons that is a sure fire way to stop this show going to air! Because no way will TV3 want to lose all their news watchers!!!"

Could all NZ Catholics please pass this on to their fellow Catholics so we can prevent this show being aired?

The problem is that it has been aired in the US. On the feast of the Assumption (I believe).

I know South park has had plenty of swipes against Catholicism (and most other religions as well) - that sounds like one of the worse ones I’ve seen/heard of though

Although this show can be hilarious at times I now realize how bad the show is. I rarely watch the show now and I am glad I missed that episode.

The NZ Bishops sent a letter to be read at all Masses yesterday urging NZ Catholics to take action against the TV station responsible - TV3 - which own C4 (the channel which is to screen the programme on May 10).

We are urged to stop watching TV3 News especially and boycott TV3 advertisers.

I suggest that, as well as a boycott, we should all pray and fast in reparation for this offense.

I’m glad you’re putting the word out…I heard about the episode from my son when it aired here in the US, and kinda wished there was some kind of warning out about it. The Cartoon Network here was planning on rerunning the episode, but thanks to organizations like the Catholic League, they “mysteriously” took it off the air and replaced it with another episode.
