But I do have everyone’s permission to go on vacation, now and then, correct? 🙂

No one expects you to always stay in the CAF galleys. A good vacation from time to time is necessary to maintain sanity. 😃

It just scares us when a loved and valuable member hangs a shingle that reads:[SIGN]I quit[/SIGN]

Not to downplay the sentiments here but I have yet to see “Resigned” under any one’s moniker. So any real “I quit” would indeed be the first.

That said, East or West, we’re all valuable to some extent and thanks to not just Alex but all those from whom I have gained more knowledge and better perspective of the faith.

I’ve only seen that label in connection with former staff apologists.

I think we all need to take vacations from the forums every once in a while. There are just so many people to butt heads with here (in the most respectful and charitable manner possible, of course :D).

This is all a learning experience and for those of us (by which I mean “all of us”) who take religious issues seriously (otherwise, why would we be here?), things that are said can be hurtful indeed.

I was, in fact, so hurt by what someone had said (since forgiven and forgotten) that I not only decided to leave here, but also to forget about religious topics altogether, sticking to my own private business and calling it a day.

In fact, Ciero told me that suffering in this respect is a cross we are also called upon to bear. Hadn’t thought of that.

The Russian website “akafist.narod.ru” has many, many akathists to various saints, glorified or not. Recently, they included one to the Bl. Archbishop Anthony Mikhaylovsky, who died and is entombed in Kyiv.

This Archbishop suffered greatly throughout his life. Even during his funeral, they couldn’t bring his coffin into the church but had to pull it through a side window . . .

That holy Archbishop (whom many venerate privately and promote his canonization) once stated that whenever we are confronted by a cross of difficulty, we should open our arms widely to accept and receive it into our lives. God will then bless us with the Grace to bear it. If we grumble and refuse to accept it, we run the risk of being broken by it.

I’m not comparing my discouragement here with that, surely! But discomfort and even feelings of being insulted are par for the course in any religious discussion.

It is something, too, that must be accepted cheerfully and with resignation.

This is what I have learned and it has broadened to a good spiritual teaching.

For this, I am truly grateful.

Alex
