Alex Trebek moderated a gubernatorial debate in Pennsylvania. It didn’t go well

He went on, unfazed by the ticking clock and the fact that the debate was nearly halfway over. “When I was a young teenager I attended a Catholic boarding school run by the Oblates of Mary Immaculate. Two-hundred and fifty students, other boys and I, spent three years sharing the same accommodations 24/7 with 44 priests and not once in those three years was there any sexual misbehavior. Now boys are pretty sharp, we talk, we would have known. So I believe that there are Catholic priests out there who are able to minister to their congregations without preying — that’s P-R-E-Y — on the young people.”

The comments on WNEP-TV’s live feed were merciless. “Where is this going?” said one. “When do we get to hear from the candidates?” added another. A third viewer put it succinctly: “Alex, shut up.”

I"m not positive if this is a “Catholic News” story or “World News” because Trebek apparently went off in a few different directions and different subjects, he seemed to know a lot though about some of the subjects like oil and gas in PA… Bottom line, he appeared to talk excessively.

Bottom-line too, the Catholic commentary is quite interesting as well. Where he went to school may have been up in Canada since that is where he is from. I haven’t totally read the article but I thought that excerpt was interesting enough. The school was a positive experience for him and the 250 other students with no problems.

PS: I’m not even sure if this merits being posted. Just saying.

Both of these candidates are pretty dreadful to begin with and now Trebek goes and adds to the pile. I’ve heard from several past Jeopardy contestants I know that he can be “interesting” to deal with off set (or even on set). Thanks for the post.
 
I’ve always gotten the impression that he’s a grouch…
 
This had the makings of a great debate. Alex could throw out answers, and let each candidate formulate a convoluted question around it.
