Is it wrong that I admire people like alexander the great,julius caesar, and many more great people that once lived back then? would i be going a step to far if i prayed for them? I’ve heard that one of the popes prayed for emperor trajan and he was forgiven. But i guess we cant be to sure. I dont know why i admire these people I dont admire their beliefs in paganism but i do admire their strength and their inteligence.
 
It’s not “wrong” to admire aspects of a person or their life. Alexander, for example, was a brilliant military strategist whose tactics endure down to the present day. That doesn’t mean you admire everything about them, or approve of all their actions.

Yes, you can pray for them, just as we pray for the soul of all the departed.

I hope not, since I was a Classical Studies major! 🙂

My favourites are Plato, Thucididies, Josephus (although he’s a bit pretentious), and Aristotle. I also like Tacitus, and Herodotus. I’m not so sure about Ceasar though. The Gaulic wars always has him at center stages, always turning the tides of battles, etc… If anything, he was a great propagandist, and a master a manipulating public opinion. Although Octavian was the real political master. Its always amazing when a Roman emperor actually lives to old age in a prosperous empire. Herod the not so great, was a brilliant builder and toady of Octavian, but when it came to dealing with his own family intrigues, and threats to his thrown, he was horrible.

They all had their good qualities, and it is not wrong to admire them, but these things are all dust and ashes compared to the saints and martyrs.

i pray for them because it makes me pretty sad that people with such intelligence went to hell or so i think not to sure im pretty sure nero is in hell. but in the end its gods judgment that matters
