The Pope can have an opinion just like anyone else.
Popes most often do not speak according to opinion but according to the teaching authority of the Church, the Magisterium. E.g., the Pope saying that contraception and abortion are immoral or that Mother Mary was always an immaculately-conceived virgin, is not merely his own personal opinion.
And he leads a Church that will follow him, but the scientists are not necessarily Catholics, or other types of Christians.
Of course people are free not to heed the Pope; but true, productive, innovative science is always in-line with the Church’s teaching. Of course one can try to point to the Galileo affair as a counterexample, but the whole “
warfare hypothesis”—that the Church is against science—is patently false. In fact
some hypothesize that if it were not for the Church, science would not have progressed as much as it has up to our modern times.
Yes, there can be a separation of Church and state or else you wouldn’t be letting such ideologies as Islam, Communism, etc into America and especially supporting (appeasing/apologizing) for them and their behaviors and deeds. And yes, I have heard your clergy and people do such things such as appease and apologize for people with such ideologies. People are certainly influenced by their beliefs, and we saw that in Bush and people denigrated him for it and now with Obama we see him influenced by his being a muslim and a ‘black theology’ follower and no one says anything about that.
I know people who consider Obama a Muslim, including myself.
Some scientists are spiritual and some are not.
Every human who ever existed has a
soul, so if spiritual means “having a soul,” then every scientist is spiritual.
People contradict themselves all the time. In fact one of the ideologies I mention contradicts itself quite often, and that is islam.
Considering the Averroists’ “double-truth,” it makes sense that Muslims are willing to contradict themselves.
And all their contradictions allow the followers to pick and chose whatever they want out of their religion to convey to people to give the aura of goodness while others do bad things. And since it is all ok, and actually the bad things are dependent on their supposed salvation, no one does anything about it. And in fact, your Church as a whole does nothing about it either. While they preach the opposite, they appease and apologize for this ideology that does and teaches bad things.
Yes, sadly, this is happening. Catholics have lost the sense of “Church Militant,” not just physically but also spiritually. We are at war in the supernatural order against such false religions.
I don’t really understand your argument, or your point. It is like you want to discuss in circles. Averrism was rejected in islam because they only recognize one truth that controls their politics, their idea of religion/rituals, their private ritualistic behaviors.
Really? I did not know that.
In our country now, we have mostly Christians and what do we see? A surge ahead in embroyonic research.
The U.S. is very, very far from being a Christian nation, in my opinion.
It was kept under check when Bush was president, but so many people, Christians, complained that Bush was stifling its research.
It is possible they had no idea it is immoral or they were Protestant “Christians” who may not have a Catholic-like dogma declaring such homicidal research immoral.
I don’t find a lot of moral clarity from some of the Bishops and Popes either.
Yes, I totally agree! I wish the modern popes would excommunicate and say “anathema” or “abomination” oftener. But that they do not in no way invalidates the Church, which is not merely a human institution. Even if the administers of the Sacraments, priests, are the most heinous sinners (and some are, even Popes), the Sacraments they properly administer are still valid.
Your Pope kisses a koran,
To this day I still do not understand that one. I am sure Christ was definitely saying to him, as he said to St. Peter, the first pope: “Go behind me, Satan, thou art a scandal unto me: because thou savourest not the things that are of God, but the things that are of men.” (
Mat. 16:23). “Satan” means “adversary.” Even God Himself knows the Pope is not perfect, yet He still chooses that he lead the Church
behind Christ, who is the ultimate head of the Church.
and him and many others haven’t a clue about islam and say things about it that can be dangerous to their followers and we see in many lands Christians are persecuted and killed in droves because of this same ignorance.
Yes, the next crusade has been, sadly, late in coming. The
Crusades (except some of the later ones) were such a marvelous time in the Church because people actually
defended the faith. (The Crusades were a defensive war.)
