Thanks to the posters who let me know about TD Jakes, and I thought he was alright too:(
Atleast we have EWTN to watch for us catholics, no offense to the poster who is LDS. It’s just that it’s sad that when you need to hear the word of God, and it’s available via media, you want to be able to know everything is legit, the seen and unseen. Everything is going corrupt, and yet we get “condemned” when we are trying our very best to obey and follow God and his commandments.

I was watching a few Paula White clips yesterday after the video I saw on this thread, and there is an interview she did with Larry King. She was promoting some book titled “You’re all That.” Well apparently on the low it’s more of a self help book then a book bringing you closer to God. The whole time it seemed like she was trying to look good and covering it up with all this talk. Basically saying it’s a self help book. I want money. She was clever in saying, I have a mission, and if that mission brings money then it brings money. But claimed it’s not about the money. Okay. But Why do a lot of women on these programs dress so extravagantly? I feel I am looking at more of what they are wearing then what they are saying sometimes. Perhaps a little judgemental, I know I can be judged on a lot of stuff.

I wish some people I know would stop watching those networks. It’s all one big piece of Fluff!!!:nope:

Strangely enough, the TBN I get (perhaps they broadcast different things in different areas) shows Bishop Sheen.

The Spirit of Antichrist, Wolves in Sheep’s Clothing

youtube.com/watch?v=Y0eSh02P43g

Stay away from these carnals who claim to be Christian. Outwardly they seem pure sheep. Inwardly they are wolves. Stay away from TBN.

The user who posted this video on Youtube is an antiCatholic. But, this video is in no way promoting antiCatholicism. This is for everybody, Protestant and Catholic. We need to stay away from blasphemers who say we are gods and that we give God permission to do things…Beware of the wolves who come in sheep’s clothing!

God bless

I like the sound-track - it’s like something from a Batman film, or the X-men 🙂

Aren’t that lot preaching the “Word of Faith” message ? The video was not entirely fair - the NT does say that Jesus is “the first-born among many brethren”, in Hebrews 4 (IIRC); though it did say he is “the only-begotten”; which ought probably to be understood as meaning “the elect one”.

With a bit of generosity - a very generous helping of it, in some instances - most of the ill-sounding stuff could probably be given an orthodox meaning.

Actually it’s a distortion of the teaching of theosis, which Saint Athanasius described as, “God became man so that man might become God,” but he elucidated it with, “We are as God by imitation, not by nature.” Essentially, God humbled Himself to save us from our carnal nature, and allowed us to embrace His divine nature as Adam did in the garden. What the Word of Faith preachers also forget is that in the original language of the OT and NT, certain phrases that translate into “god” actually often mean “godly.” It doesn’t have that meaning in English, hence why they misunderstand it and distort it, turning it into something like Mormonism.

In fact the passage you’re referring to is actually in Romans 8, but the context needs to be understood:

For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. [Romans 8:29; emphasis mine]

The Greek word used for “conformed” (summorphos) means to be fashioned like or figuratively similar. It refers to us being the brothers and sisters of Christ through faith in Him, not literal gods because we inherit some kind of godship.

And I don’t think there’s any real way you can get “the elect one” from μονογενής. The word stems from the Greek words monos (“alone” or “only”) and genos (“family” or “offspring”).
With a bit of generosity - a very generous helping of it, in some instances - most of the ill-sounding stuff could probably be given an orthodox meaning.
I highly doubt it. Generosity would have to entail ignoring large portions of what they’re saying and looking at it with an extreme universalist approach 😛 I don’t think, for example, there’s any way you can get around saying, “Jesus never claimed to be the Messiah,” when Christ confirms it many times in the gospels.

wow that is scary…

the part about Jesus not being the only begotten Son of God, is especially ridiculous. We are children of God but we’re not begotten, we’re created!! Jesus is the only begotten Son of the Father.

the part about us being gods… no comment…

and about us needing to “give God permission”… there is PLENTY that God has done without asking our “permission”. For example, He created the world, He created us, the Incarnation, etc… all without asking us. He is God and can do what He wills.

I feel sorry for people who watch TBN… there’s a lot of heresy there.

It really is a disgrace and it has dug itself a very deep pit. Unfortunately TD Jakes is not one to listen to either. He comes from what is called a Oneness Pentecostal background which denies the essential doctrine of the Trinity.
One of the women portrayed on that TBN clip is Paula White. You can look up her website to see what she’s all about .She pastors a church in Florida that has been mired in scandals of all kinds; she her former husband Randy and several other pastors, including Creflo, Copeland, Meyers and Hinn have been under investigation by Senator Grassley of the Senate Finance Committee for alledgedly funding their extravagant lifestyles with their followers’ donations.
All of these only scratch the surface of “ministries” that have twisted the Scriptures leading many hurting seeking people astray not to mention potentially misusing donations to build their personal wealth.
yup it’s all about the money

.
Actually i will need to do some reading ,i thought i read some thing to that effect in the NT perhaps with a link to the OT.With an explaination of what is meant on this passage. Was ther a quote given for that line?

Ah TBN, whenever I need a good laugh I turn to them.

Most of this I’ve heard over and over again, they haven’t stopped saying it yet. My favorite recent blasphemy was some preacher who took the parable of the Final Judgment out of context and said, “When you’re having sex with your sister in law, you’re having sex with Jesus!” I think I did the sign of the cross when I heard that so I wouldn’t be guilty just for listening to it.
I wish someone I know would have heard that, then maybe she would stop listening to that garbage. I am waiting for the day for her to hear them slip up just one time. She fell away from the catholic church a long time ago. She gets this newsletter called the Berean Call. They had a book review on the Shack. Well not even half way through reading this article, which this newsletter is not catholic affiliated, started slandering the catholic church. I was disgusted and angered, by it. I said to myself no wonder she gets stuff from them it feeds her hatred for her views against the church. Sometimes I wish Saint Padre Pio was still alive, so he might say a thing or two to these preachers on tv and those against the church, for them to get there act together and come/come back to the true church. What hurts the most is when these preachers have ex-catholics trying to clarify and agree with non catholics about what they think is wrong with the church. It hurts to the core.

So would you consider these guys “Not Christian” or just “heterodox”?

From your perspective, I would not consider this crowd to be “Anti-Catholic”. The group that put out the video in the OP I would guess would be much more “Anti-Catholic” than the TBN crowd.

I actually watched another video by this same group on the Roman Catholic Church being the great harlot of Revelation. I almost started a thread on this out of curiosity on how y’all would respond to this. But I did not figuring it would be misunderstood and you would start saying that I have many demons again.

There is a line in the psalms which says, “you are gods,” and Christ refers to it when the Pharisees get upset with Him for using the phrase “Son of God.” The problem is that the word used for “gods” in the original Hebrew often simply meant “godly,” and that’s the context used in the specific passage. Saint John Damascene talks on this a little bit.

The problem is when the TBN crowd starts saying we’re BEGOTTEN sons of God, when Christ clearly says He is the only begotten Son of God, and freely use the word “you are gods” in a near literal context. As Paul says, we are sons of God through our brotherhood in Christ, which is based on faith and not being sourced to the Father (as the Son and Holy Spirit are).
Gnosticism.
Stupid Gnostics refuse to go away.

I happened to catch Paula White’s show one evening. She spent the whole show pushing skin care products and saying something about how it’s our religious responsibility to take care of our appearance. “Look HOT for Jesus!”

Thank God for EWTN!!!

Thanks for the video link, it’s scary that a lot of dumb people actually believe what these anti-Christians say. Thank God I’m Catholic.

It is sad, but it is also very funny.
I wonder if they know how foolish they look ?

Have trouble imagining that anyone could take them seriously !
+Peace,

The sex reference isn’t funny but I think wolf means the overall channel and its antics are funny. TBN is so over-the-top in the PTL tradition lol…they used to have this Tammy Fay-type lady on there with this purple hair and a heap of eye makeup. Her husband was this goody-two-shoes guy with a CHP mustache and an all-white suit. They all sat in these rococo, decked-out crazy thrones with jewels in them, gold couches, gold frames around the paintings, gaudy decor and a table made of gold inlays with fancy-shmancy purple kingly fabrics on the chairs, etc. It was just too much. They’d have these nutty guest stars like these Christian guys who were hyped up on human growth hormone who would bust bricks and cinder blocks “through the power of Christ” and these cheesy singers, you name it. The show looked like an Ed Wood production. Hilarious. Benny Hinn got his start there and that guy is a LOON! Josie, you’re right that the outcome of people being mislead is NO laughing matter, but the show itself and the things being said as well as the costumes and phony-boloney act is a knee-slapper.😛
The names of the woman who wears a large blond wig and her husband are Paul and Jan Crouch. They are the ones who started TBN. For many years they were in competition with Jim and Tammy Faye Baker. I believe one of them wrote a book saying some pretty bad things about the others. Of course when Tammy Faye got cancer all was forgiven and Tammy appeared on the show. I sometimes switch to TBN for no longer than 2 or 3 minutes and noticed that Jan and Paul are rarely on it. I have wondered if Paul was ill, as I never see him on it.

I really don’t understand how anyone can be taken in by the shows, but there are many people who join cults. It is a shame, but God will be their judge. They also have a “Catholic priest” Fr. Manning is his name I think. I have no idea where he came from and why the Church lets him have a show on TBN.

Yours in the Hearts of Jesus and Mary

Bernadette

Ugh, oh yeah him. He even offers gifts like paintings for large donations. Seriously, why haven’t his superiors cracked down on him? He’s also into universalism and some other heresies.

And some people wonder why the inqusitions.I mean like if there every was a reason for one this type of preist ought to be a reason. But then again is this man really an ordained preist or just some one who stuck father on his name.
