I read the Mormon church has changed its position on various matters 3,000 times and I am having a very hard time understanding when they expound on the theology of their beliefs…they do have points of faith

I say that sincerely, I genuinely have a very hard time following their belief system.

RebeccaJ is a good source to help you find out what they believe today.

hi diana. read a little more carefully. i said “even if.” i for one do not believe any of joseph smiths prophecies came true. but again, even IF a few of them did. it does not make him a prophet. again. the Biblical test for a prophet is that he must be correct 100% this was in accordance with the law of moses and also found in the book of jeramiah. either joseph smith spoke for God or he did not. but for all the good that came out of what he founded, he was still by the standards set up by the law of moses, a false prophet. such was balaam also. he was correct at times. but still he was a false prophet. peace be to you.🙂
I don’t accept that any of the prophecies of Joseph Smith failed. They were either not prophecies, or they did not fail.

To be fair I do believe the 3,000 changes you are referring too are the 3,000 changes (some minor, some major) in the BoM.

Not 3,000 changes in dogmatic matters. I don’t think there is a number attached to that.

hi Z. i find your view interesting. had the same thing happen with why me quoting the pope. i did not see those as prophecies either. will p.m. you with some of the possible prophetic remarks ive read from joseph smith, and you can give me your assesment. appreciate it my friend. God bless you and yours.🙂

What about two Lds Missionaries approaching me as I walk into the Catholic Church in Logan Utah and ask me why I am going in? Then proceed to tell me about how my Church failed? I have been here for eleven years I could comment on this more if you like. They did come to Bible study with me, but they kept pointing at their own books so I don’t think they got anything out od it. But it was good to have them for awhile.

Its not just about comments made in the past. You know that, right?
I would not have done that!!! You have the right to worship as you choose. I served a mission and never even thought about that. In your defense…I have met several “well meaning” missionaries that haven’t left “Utah/Zion” and have never met someone of another faith. When I attended MTC(Missionary Training Center), they never realy went over other faiths. I was brought up by a Catholic mom; but attended several different churchs growing up.

I would like to apologize to you for what happened. They should have respected your teacher in Bible study and listened, respected, and used only the Bible. Please don’t think all Mormons are like this. I will never raise my children to be as “short sided” as those missonaries were.

lol, it’s always the fault of those dang Utah mormons. :rotfl:

its also interesting to note all the videos you can find of fundamentlist in temple square foaming at the mouth condemning Mormons as they walk by, to attend their services. im sure there are some Catholics in that crowd too. sad. just look on you tube to find them. we all have done things to make us look bad. Peace to you.🙂

You might have better luck asking the question in:
Help! How does CAF work?
(Click on the link below to get there.)

Question:

I am rather new to forums, and old enough to be somebody’s grandma…or great grandma…

What does the check mean? Who puts it there? Does it mean to target this site or what? I see it come up all the time…

Though I know nothing of JS’s prophecies, the logic in the statement you just made is completely absurd. You just claimed that any potential prophecy made by JS about the future that came out false is therefore not a prophecy in virtue of the very fact that the prophecy came out false. Anyone can do that with false predictions to make it seem like the person who made them never made an error. So anytime an astrologer makes a prediction that comes out false, that prediction is in virtue of that fact alone, therefore, no longer a prediction?

The statement you made is what logicians call a “tautology,” (P or not-P), meaning that under no circumstance can your statement ever be false. Either JS smith made a false prediction which is therefore not a prophecy or JS made a true prediction which is therefore a prophecy. This is logically equivalent to saying that JS either made a prophecy or did not. But this is always true! Nice try, zerinus.😃

Utah mormons are a tad different from the rest. Many nonutah mormons if they move to utah may find the utah mormon mindset a bit challenging. I know that I did. But on the other hand, during Reagan’s recession, when I moved to Utah, the mormons there were kind and considerate and the bishop gave me the opportunity to head down to Desseret Thrift to get some food and clothes for free. Not bad. 🙂

I also worked on Welfare Square shoveling onions.

and?

Yes, Viki…and you were there when you didn’t speak to the clerks in the Deseret Book Store but nevertheless knew that they had never heard of the “Pearl of Great Price,” and had pulled the book, and you were there when you called the church authorities in SLC and THEY told you that they had never heard of the Pearl of Great Price.

Please excuse me, Viki…but while you may believe this story yourself, it is extremely unlikely.
What on Earth are you talking about??? I’ve never been in the Deseret Book Store in my life, and I’ve NEVER said that the church authorities denied the pearl of great price. Are you mixing me up w/ someone else that you argue with on this forum???

Vicki,

With all the diatribe, it wasn’t for awhile that I finally told her I never spoke to the clerks…I came across a book called the Pearl of Great Price…but when I complained to LDS in SLC, it was primarily about the content and I was not clear about the title…went back, looked for it myself…afterall I found it all by myself…but I couldn’t find it…so went home and went online…found out more…and then lost interest in Mormonism…until I came on …and WHAM!

I got it for inadvertently running into that stuff!!!

I told this poster several times I never spoke to the clerks or asked them to look for the book. The materials were very anti-Catholic and I wonder if it was an 1853 abridged version with several authors…they say they are pulling them…this was in 2004 or 5 so i assume there are LDS stores out there with the same materials…and if anything, the same construct that the church is should I go on?..

I can’t believe this…

Kathleen

OK, Diane must have the 2 of us mixed up. She argues w/ so many people on this forum that she can’t keep our names straight!!!

I had no idea the reaction this would bring…and I am sadden the event was so fragmented that she still believes in what she thought happened.

My dear Kathleen,

No one has the right to question your sincerity, honesty, or motives regarding your experience with a bookstore.

To those who question your sincerity or honesty (though I can clearly see you are both honest and sincere), I refer them to Forum Rules:

Link: forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=162027
General Guidelines for posting in Non-Catholic Religions General Guidelines
Post #3:

"It is never acceptable to question the sincerity of an individual’s beliefs.
“It is never acceptable to assume or say you know what another person thinks or needs.”
I’ve been going over all the rules and guidelines and reflecting on how I have posted in the past. I am prayerfully working on being more charitable in my comments and responses. To any I have offended in the past, I am truly sorry.

God bless you, Kathleen,
Anna

why me:
I hope that you realize that catholic popes said some humdingers in the past.
You keep making this claim, but every time I or anyone else has asked you for an example of a papal “humdinger”, you never provide an example, you just keep making the claim.

If you will not back up your claim with facts, you should stop making the claim. It brands you as the liar that you are.

But that is the one thing you can count on from Mormons - they lie.
