I actually enjoyed the book too :whacky:. Keeping in mind that it was fiction and not true!

This is depressing. Why bother addressing DVC at all if the only argument that needs to be presented is someone saying “The bible is correct and DVC is not”

No one really read my post or understood my point, so nevermind.
I’m sorry but the best reason to end this discussion is that this book was FICTION and no credible historian would consider this book to be a reference for fact of any kind. Were there books left out of the Bible, of course. There was a counsel formed just for that very purpose, to decide what was authentic scripture inspired by God and what wasn’t. The gnostic gospels were excluded. This is not a big secret. This has always been a part of church history. No one has ever tried to hide this fact. There has been no conspiracy. Oh, and I tried to read this book but because of my knowledge of church history, I just couldn’t get into it. The author was saying there has been a big secret and I knew about it before I opened the book!!! Some secret!!! And by the way, I’m no great Christian scholar, just a church going Catholic.

The Da Vinci Code’s entire claim is based on the fact that just maybe, the bible today isnt what it was at the time of Christ. Given that, quoting the bible as evidence against DVC says nothing in itself.

You see, when people come up to you and say say for example, that the bible is a load of BS and that God doesnt exist, you dont say “Aha! But look here, in the bible it says that God exists! What do you have to say to that?”

See my point?
What we say to that is that the raw textual evidence in support of Scripture as we know it is massive. There are thousands of ancient manuscripts.

Although the oldest complete bibles we have date only from the 4th Century, there are thousands of ancient manuscripts and fragments of manuscripts in many different languages. Their consonance is outstanding. Textual variants are limited. If you have 8 manuscripts, and each manuscript has 3 readings that differ from the other manuscripts, the variants do not overlap. Get it? A fragment of the Gospel of John was recently discovered which dates not later than 90 A.D.
