I am getting ready for the weekly Bible study which I hold for our assisted living residents.
It falls on Halloween and I plan to bring in the Christian roots of that day, then moving into “All Saints Day” and discussing the scripture readings for that day’s Mass.
Actually, I have a multi-denominational group, so that impacts my curriculum a bit.
I realize, though, that some protestants do have all saints day as well.
Does any one have any suggestions, especially of possible activities?
I try to keep it simple for our residents.
Thank you.

Something I did with inquirers in RCIA was to talk about Halloween, its connection to All Saints Day, then talk about All Souls Day and what it means. Then we talked about those who have gone before us in faith, those who passed the faith down to us --parents, grandparents., friends, etc. – and told the rest of the group some of our sacred stories, Then we said a prayer of gratitude for having these people on our lives.

What sort of things do you do?

Crafts? Songs? Movie?

It might be a great time for the elders to remember those who have gone before–their parents, grandparents, etc. Often we tend to forget that they have lost many, many people. and would love to reminisce.

If crafts, you can do one of those easy Chinese paper lanterns that children make and have them write the names of those who have gone before on each of the bendy bits.

It could look very beautiful.

Thanks all for the ideas.
We can do VERY SIMPLE crafts and they enjoy songs.

The lanterns are very simple. If you have paper tape, rather than glue, it becomes even easier to make something that looks really nice. The cuts are fairly easy, too. I believe I made my first at the age of 4 or 5 so even someone incapacitated by arthritis should be able to manage one.

I think it might be more of a group project - I am not sure - because I doubt that each of our residents will have that many people they would remember who have died to pray for - maybe I could put them in groups of 2 or three to work on it.
