So, next Sunday is All Soul’s Day, according to the OF Calendar. But, as I understand it, All Soul’s Day is transferred to Nov. 3, if Nov. 2 falls on a Sunday, according to the EF Calendar. That means next Sunday we’ll be celebrating the Fourth(?) extra Sunday after Epiphany, right? Now, my parish only offers the EF on Sundays, so there won’t be an All Soul’s Day mass on Nov. 3. Does that mean, that I need to attend the OF mass in order to meet my All Soul’s Day obligation?

Help is appreciated.

All Soul’s Day is not a holy day of Obligation. It is All Saints that is.
I follow the traditional calendar, so All Soul’s will be on the 3rd for me. We won’t have an EF Mass, but I will offer my Rosary and say extra prayers for the souls in purgatory.

Since you mentioned it briefly, I will add that for the next three Sundays the Introit, Gradual, Offertory, and Communon (the propers the choir would sing at a sung Mass), are taken from the last Sunday after Pentecost. The Collect, Epistle, Gospel, Secret, Post coummunion (all the other Propers), are taken from the appropriate Sunday after Epiphany. The last Sunday after Pentecost is celebrated on the Sunday the OF celebrates the Feast of Christ the King.

Thanks for the clarification! I guess I’ll go to OF Mass on Saturday for All Saint’s and to my regular EF mass on Sunday then. Also to honor the departed souls, I plan on going to a cemetery each day for the octave of All Souls and pray for the departed. I recently read that there’s a plenary indulgence for the souls in purgatory (does that mean someone in purgatory will automatically go to heaven?) if one does this, does anyone know about that? God bless!

Didn’t know that! Thanks! 🙂
