Jesus says somewhere, I don’t know where, that all who seek him shall find him. Where do I start my journey? I want to be a believer, but something is holding me back. I don’t know what to do

Since you are seeking Jesus, the logical place to seek Him is where He can be found. The information about Jesus can be found in Holy Scriptures. There is also a great deal of circumstantial evidence as to His existence. But the real meeting takes place in a personal encounter with Him. This encounter is a gift of grace not as a result of anything we can do, it is given. Upon reading Scripture, the way is revealed to bring this about. A humble turning to God(Jesus) in prayer and a turning from a life of sin, and giving one’s life to God. Being Baptized, becoming a child of God, being reborn, regenerated in a life of grace by the work of the Holy Spirit one receives from Jesus. Pray that the Father calls you to His Son. He also can be found in those who found Him, other Christians, and they also can show you how they found Him, how they encountered Him We all find Him in the “Good News” That Jesus is Lord and Savior bringing salvation to mankind.

I would find a Eucharistic adoration chapel in your area (you can do a google search online for “pereptual Eucharistic adoration chapels” ). I would go there and speak with Jesus personally and lay it all on the line…tell Him what’s on your mind, what you’re feeling, where you’re at and what you want.

Reading the Gospel of John is a good place to begin. If you don’t have a copy of the Bible, you can find it online.
Matthew 7:7 holds the verse you were looking for I think:
7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.
Revelation 3:20: 'Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.
A good way to get started becoming a believer is to ask Jesus into your life, and then get connected with a good church (preferably Catholic).

Just talk to him has a friend about anything and everything.
Get a picture of Jesus you like and look at it frequently and remember he is someone who laid down his life for you and loves you that much. Then talk to him from your heart and lay all fear aside and remember he loves you when you to talk to him.

The way you phrased the quote is not exactly the way it appears in Scripture. The text you allude to can be found in places like Matthew 7:7 and Luke 11:9. Don’t feel bad, I had to look it up.
In Matthew:
The Navarre Bible points out that this text is a reference to the infallibility of prayer. However, riffing off of St. Augustine and St. Josemaria Escriva, it goes on to point out that we do not always get what we pray for. Why?
I would say that a wonderful place to start finding Christ is in prayer, and especially prayers for the graces to overcome the three obstacles listed above.
Also, Catholic-dot-com is a world-class apologetics website. I would heartily suggest that you find out what, precisely, is bugging you about the Faith, and then do a keyword search of the website. I’m absolutely positive that you’ll find intellectual ammo to help you think through whatever impediments you may have.
