On a spiritual level.
The Historic Reformation Churches(with a few rare exceptions), have become so liberal that they are mostly pro-choice and same sex marriage, and don’t even take some verses of Scripture seriously. There are a few holdouts but I wonder how long that will last.
Many Evangelical churches seem to be taken over with the Prosperity gospel, there are still some Bible teaching churches.
Meanwhile, there’s the Sex Scandals in the Roman Catholic Church and
now this Schism in the Eastern Orthodox Churches.
We need to pray for the Body of Christ!!

It seems the Church has always been under attack to some degree or another.
It’s inevitable because ‘belief’ and religion is always in conflict with the materialistic world.

Hang on tight and keep the faith I say.

Even the “Orthodox” protestants communities have always been in heresy.

It’s a very sad situation, but the Church will survive like it did during the Protestant Revolution, the moral decadence in the Renaissance etc.
this Schism in the Eastern Orthodox Churches.
Most of them have been in Schism with the Church since 1054, the current conflict between Constantinople and Moscow it’s a schism inside the schism.

Amen!

Yet there is only One that was founded by Christ…the Catholic Church and the first pope selected by Christ denied Him three times. The Catholic Church is perfect…her members not so much.

Agreed. Left to ourselves we are going to muck it up pretty bad. That’s precisely why Jesus left us a church.

My evangelical / Pentecostal friends and relatives (especially the preachers among them) are always talking about “Jesus could come back for His Church any day now”. My response, is, “Yeah, He’ll come back when He’s got something worth coming back for. I don’t know for sure, but right now I’m not seeing it.”

So in your viewpoint the members do not make up the church. If the Catholic Church lost all its members, what would be left?

There would always be some faithful members left.

The Catholic Church is always and everywhere holy. That holiness depends on Christ, not the members.

The holiness of the members is important too. A greater number may be more holy in one year than another, or in one place than another. That is crucial for them, but doesn’t affect the holiness of the Church.

If I receive Holy Communion from a saint, it is not holier than from someone who is evil. I personally may be holier one year than the next. That affects me, and others. It does not raise or lower the holiness of the Catholic Church.

The divine teaching for the rest of God’s people. :+1:t3:

And my point is in fact that the Church is the people made up of individuals who alone and individually are ultimately accountable to God for their contribution to the building up or the tearing down of the Church. It is my viewpoint that it is unacceptable to believe that because I was baptized into the faith and belong to the Church that it is now ok to not strive to perfection since the Church which is perfect will cover for me.

Nobody on this thread said that. In my post, I emphasized three times the importance of one’s personal holiness, which is variable.

I, nor the Catholic Church, would not disagree with any of this. However, i would add that it is also unacceptable to believe i have the right to decide for myself what it is that defines this perfection you speak of which in this day and age has become very obscure to true believers. So, while your view of “church” is correct you must agree it is limited based on the plethora of belief systems withen Christianity. Now since God will not be limited and He will not leave us orphans and the gates of hell will not prevail, we are left with a church grater than your view. A body that is perfect, visible, and audible for those, including the unintelligent, who might want to know how to seek this perfection and properly worship the one true God.

Peace!!!
