All you "fanatical" Catholics

I’ve never been called a “fanatic”, but I do get some raised eyebrows when I’ve told other Catholics that they shouldn’t skip Mass on Sunday. I get the “well, you’re not perfect!” response because I bring up a precept of the Catholic Church. I know I’m not perfect, but I don’t want to dig a deeper hole by not following Church basics. And I don’t want the ones I love to suffer needlessly because they don’t follow the Church’s teachings.
it’ss a mortal sin to miss mass on Sunday… have you told them THAT? i didn’t even know this until fairly late in the game… and when i first heard it, i thought… No way, God isn’t going to send you to hell for that… but who was i to say about what God would do/wouldn’t do…? True, if you don’t KNOW… that’s different…

but anyway, i am SO glad i began going to Mass regularly, then began daily Mass… a great blessing to say the least!!

I’m so glad the Church is “legalistic” about this kind of thing…

so glad i was given “so many rules!!!”

Just to name a few 😉 Be sure to offer your insults to Jesus 🙂
i get all of them except “Jewish” and “Harry Potter”… Huh???

There is nothing cooler or more attractive than a christian woman. they are my favorite bad*** chicks 😃
gee, thanks for the encourgement… i was beginning to think all men liked that slutty, come-hither type of woman you see on TV these days…the ones who wears low necked things… and sleep with them on the first date… or even without a date…

where are all the guys like you???

oh yeah… they’re already taken… 😦

i look around all the time mostly at work and i say to my self how can some people live life not believing in god, not praying and live life the TV way.

the hard thing for me is that trying to find someone here in australia that at least goes to mass…

alot of people here just like in the usa live together and are not husband and wife but they call themselves partners.
yeah, there aren’t many Catholics where I’m at either… makes me want to move to Rhode Island. Somehre i heard (probably erroneously) that RI is 60% Cahtolic… :hmmm::coffeeread:

I think I’ve been called “fanatical” in three categories:
  1. many Christians I know aren’t Catholic, but all identify with each other. Because I won’t go to their lunchtime Bible-studies, but try to get to Mass instead, I’m over-the-top.
  2. by other Catholics who are lukewarm, but I don’t think that I am “holier than thou” by any means
  3. by agnostic/athiest friends who don’t understand my fascination with apologetics and theology
nobody seems to understand my “obsession” 😃 with the Real Presence… I don’t know for sure what other parishioners think but sometimes i can pretty much imagine by the way they act…

I also think some family members think i’m a “religious nut”… because a lot of my comments about Jesus, etc… are met with silence… change of subject…

I’ve been called a zealot which is pretty much the same thing. My sister in law at a family discussion during the election last year. I do daily mass, rosary ect but her comments had to have been in response to my pro-life views.
strange world when one is a zealot for not believing in murdering children… 😦

I don’t consider myself a fanatic, but I suppose some might consider me as such. I consider myself a devout Catholic. I follow Church teaching ‘religiously’. I don’t smoke or drink. I go to mass even while on vacations, some consider that extreme. I consider that normal. I love visiting other parishes while out of town. I consider it the highlight of some of my trips. My favorite mass was in Tobago.
you are not a devout Catholic…

if you don’t drink…

😃

I have been called many things because of my traditional Catholic beliefs. Many think I am “weird”, “outdated”, or a “romantic” because I attend Latin Mass. My nephew called me prideful and I had to do some soul searching which was good for my prayer life. I told him I am proud to be called Catholic but not prideful in the sense he met.

What is funny is when all those people who think I am weird call and ask for a novena or a rosary in their time of need.

Oh, yes, try explaining why you have encouraged your son and daughter to consider a vocation…:gopray2:

I was called prideful because I’ve been celibate for a long time and dont do the self-gratification thing… (hate the m word ) I thought to myself… Hmmm… do i detect a note of jealousy here?? And besides… they should realize that my celibacy is NOT!!! by choice… (just haven’t found Mr VirtuallyRight yet… )

i said same thing you did… that i am not prideful in the sense poster meant… but proud (more like blessed) to have Jesus… (Church)

I’ve been called “right-wing” and “ultra-conservative.” During the presidential campaign season, I was often accused of being a Republican Party shill. It’s funny how political labels get attached to religious beliefs, usually by people who do not fully know either my political or religious beliefs.

I just consider myself a plain ol’ devout, faithful, orthodox, practicing Catholic. Neither “liberal” nor “conservative,” neither “left-wing” nor “right-wing.”

I have actually been called both “liberal” and “conservative” by different people. Which is it? I think that’s proof that I’m really neither. 🙂

I am a Lay Dominican, so I am expected to go above and beyond the “minimum.” But I think all Catholics do that in some way. I think it’s part of the “Catholic DNA.” After all, we never know when we may be called to martyrdom, whether “white martyrdom” or “red martyrdom.” All Catholics have to carry their crosses, be they big or small.

I.
nobody doubts MY political views…

i am a right-wing NUT and always will be because that party is the only one that has any sense about LIFE, the most important issue of all…

you can hardly have any other rights if you don’t even have the right to exist…

so call me conservative or ultra-conservative… just don’t call me apathetic about the unborn…

My dear friend

Fanatics are born predisposed that way I think. They get fanatical bout something. Often it’s religion or sport. Many people would see me as a fanatic but the more religious I become the more i become the person God intended me to be in my opinion. I try hard to come over very normal with others but may seem strange sometimes to them. With all my eccentricities i see myself as more normal than most. If one tries to pray always amongst other things they seem weird and fanatical, but this is Gods will and the pirpose of our existence.

God bless:thumbsup:🙂

I’m hard of hearing, so I don’t know what they call me behind my back.

Although I’m not fanatical. If anything I’ve gotten a bit slack, but as a former Protestant who was a bit fanatical during my early conversion, I’ve learned that God doesn’t use fanaticism to convert others, or rarely.

He has His own timing, and boy, it really, really drags.

i think God uses fanatics all the time… No one was more a fanatic than St. paul…

I’m wondering what you are speaking of when you say God has his own timing and it really drags? I’ve had the same feeling, especially lately… but the thought that occurs to me is that it isn’t God who is dragging but sinners… To me, it seems that SIn is what causes God’s will to be slowed down to a crawl, if it is accomplished at all in this world. A lot of the time (most of the time, i feel) God’s work (what He would want) is NOT done in this world at all… so many “boats” are missed… because of sin & people always wanting to do what THEY want and not wht God wants… they don’t even seem to want to PRAY about what God may want…

Its funny I’m even writing about this right now… because had been thinking about this earlier but thought i had moved on to other things…

Now, thanks to you… i am back on this kinda depressing subject… 😃

anyway, i will pray for you even though i don’t know you from adam… God knows who you are… 🙂

yeah, i used to hear that phrase all the time… that God has his timing. I think God would want a lot of things for us… but like i said… we and all other sinners just mess things up right & freaking left… because we don’t want to stop doing things OUR way… When i started at least trying to figure out what God wanted… I got some ideas as to what that might be but got nowhere because others were NOT pulling w/ me but away from me…

I just think, like i said that… there are a bzillion things God would have for his children but… it just aint gonna happen… because we dont’ cooperate…

yeah, “fanatical” is a subjective term, for sure…

Of course one is going to be seen as fanatical when compared w/ those in the world… those who fornicate without thinking twice… co-habit… abort hteir children… use birth control, etc…

One reason they call us this is probably becaue they feel guilty… t hey know we may right… (about stem cell research, etc…) Plus people want to be God and so, don’t like being told what to do/not do…

Jesus, Beam me up… for crying out loud… 😃

I’m just wondering if you consider yourself “fanatical”?

What do you do that other Catholics don’t… or dont do much of?

Has anyone called you fanatical?

Do ever get the feeling therre aren’t many of us around??

(and anything else you care to add)
Hey I’ve got to say …some of the things you write I would love to be inside your mind. I say that in the lightest way, I wonder if you are a very jovial person it seems at times you come on with a …I wonder if attitude, like this one, and then on other occasions you seem real serious.

However I always get smeared at, cursed, lied about and by others wonderment, amazed because of how The Lord does things through me. So I get the lot Oh, yes and quite often left out.
BUT…it’s all good I can’t say I love it all although I try to but it keeps me on track with my quest.

Godless

I’m a convert and just recently “found” a new love for my Catholic religion, and for the first time in my life, I feel the Holy Spirit and I pray to Jesus many times during the day…I put a beautiful picture of Jesus up in my house and my mother looked at me like I was nuts…

You are nutts, nutts about a God who is nutts about His child (you) and you should maybe tell your mum that there are people in this workd who do really love. That they get the "love’ from the essence of love (Jesus) and that there are no other ways of getting love.
Man,I’m nutts to ,yeh I love it.
Godbless.

My family thinks I’m fanatical because I go to confession every week, sometimes go to Mass more than once a week, pray the rosary every night, understand the Latin prayers, and read the Bible.

There used to be a bloke called Richard Wurmbrand. He spent about 17 years in prison as a Christian in a communist state, after somehow avoiding being rounded up as a Jew during the Nazi years.

He was severely tortured during that time.

God’s timing again?
