Does anyone know from where the Alleluia verse it to be announced.
The G.I.R.M. says “From the ambo only the readings, the Responsorial Psalm, and the Easter Proclamation (Exsultet) are to be proclaimed; likewise it may be used for giving the Homily and for announcing the intentions of the Universal Prayer. The dignity of the ambo requires that only a minister of the word should stand at it.”
It also says that a cantor or chior proclaims the verse.
Where are they to do it from, if not the ambo, especially if the ambo is the only place that has a microphone?
Thanks.

Choir stations have microphones.

The gospel acclamation can be considered part of the readings. What it’s basically saying is that the ambo (like the altar) is a special object and so should be reserved for things fitted to its purpose rather than being used for mundane things. The Gospel Acclamation fits very much with the theology and purpose of the ambo and is anything but mundane. Thus, there is no issue with it being proclaimed from the ambo (or another suitable place)

Hmm. In my home parish we have a “Liturgy of the Bulletin” which precedes the Mass when one of the Lectors approaches the ambo and reads a detailed list of announcements. Should the ambo not be used for reading announcements?

As others have said, there is no liturgical issue with the Gospel verse being proclaimed from the ambo; two local chapels do this. However, most parishes I’ve been to would have a logistical issue with it because the priest or deacon is usually approaching/at the ambo by the time the verse is wrapping up.

Knowing you Eli, I know you know the answer to this question! The ambo is a sacred place for the Liturgy of the Word, just as the altar is a sacred place for the Liturgy of the Eucharist. Churches should not be using the ambo for “pizza party” announcements!

Good luck with that argument. 🙂

Actually, I think that one would be won if the Pastor.explained it and cared enough about it to make his own, non-liturgy related, announcements from another spot. In our parish they even do the monthly parish lottery draw from the Ambo. Drives me nuts!
