There is no such thing as almost saved, you are saved when you are Baptized, nothing else’s is needed, no altar calls or re-baptism. Christ did it all on the cross on Good Friday.
So… All you need is to be baptized, even if you go off and do horribly evil things, you are still saved?

To me it looks like Christ showed us just how difficult it is to be saved.

I think that was the point of the slogan. There is no such thing as “being almost saved.” You are either saved or not. Of course, the person/church who posted the slogan may have a different idea of what baptism means, but the point is the same. There is no such thing as being “almost saved.”

We sin every day, the Lutheran understanding is that sin is sin. If we fall away from our baptism, then we will not be saved, but if we repent and accept the free Grace from God and believe in Christ, we will be saved. We receive forgiveness of sins in the Sacrament of Baptism, Confession and Absolution, and the Holy Eurchast.

Agreed. So, we Lutherans could say, in a sense, that we are “almost” saved, since we have the free will to, at any point in our lives, reject grace. The sense we say that might be somewhat different to the way a Catholic might mean it.

Or, it might not. 😃

I think it is not right to say even “almost saved” because we always believe that the last judgment is the key. We know that humanity is weak, even the Pope confesses everyday. When we ask which is the greatest; faith, hope, or love? We say love because it defines everything God us wanted us to do. Faith in Him, realization of what we hope for, and do the good works that pleases God. And most of all is the love we talked about God and our neighbors.

Rikk,

It goes beyond that. When we say that the greatest of these is love and love endures forever. Stop. What is it that endures forever. Only God endures forever. So what is love?

The rich man went to Jesus and said good rabbi. Why do you call me good? God alone is good.

Aquinas says that Love is willing God to others. To truly love then what you do in your actions must involve that willing of God to others or willing the good and since God alone is good then willing that which endures forever.🙂

I agree, We can’t say what God knows. If he says we are, we are, if he says nope, we are in big trouble. We cannot speak for God.

As St Paul says we fear and tremble and as I say, Hope for the best.

All we can do is rely on the mercy of our Dear most Precious Loving God.

Rin,

Then perhaps it should have been posted on the marquee

Almost saved until truly saved, God Willing.🙂
