Merry Christmas to all! I hope you are having a blessed and joyous evening wherever you are!

I just suppose I am a little sad. Those of you who saw my previous post(s), know that there are family issues and because of this, my parents and I did not attend any celebration this Christmas Eve, nor will we tomorrow. We went to Mass, of course, which was lovely…but now, as most people go off to their relatives’ homes, I am stuck at home. It is 9:40pm, everyone is asleep except me and there is nothing to do.

I feel such a lack of family as well as a horrible feeling of loneliness. My dad was drinking today (which is what happens frequently) as a result of the constant arguing that goes on between him and his family; he has been miserable, taking his anger out on me all day.

I am trying to make the best of the situation, but it is very hard to when there is nothing to do, nowhere to go, and no one to speak to. None of my cousins, uncles, or aunts (with the exception of one) speak to me, and my grandmother hates me. I know I will be blamed even more for my father not showing up for the party today.

What does one do when she is all alone on a holiday? I am not sleepy, otherwise I would go to sleep. sigh Please pray for me. This is just a typical, lonely Christmas for me.

My heart goes out to you. My prayers are with you this Christmas Eve. Please use the time to pray for others who are also alone and lonely and spend time with God.

I’m alone for Christmas, too. Feel free to PM if you like.

It is sad. I have a family for Christmas, but I feel like I’m alone because they aren’t much of a family. 😦 Feel free to PM if you ever want to talk.

Just remember this: Priests don’t get to spend Christmas with their family, as they’re busy offering Mass all day. So, you’re not the only one. 👍

My heart goes out to all of you who have to spend this Christmas alone! You’re in my prayers. <3

For all who are alone, as I often was when younger and living on my own, remember that this can be a time to simply contemplate God in your lives. Use it as a time to enjoy the silence you may be surrounded by, listen to some Christmas Music (The kind with Jesus and God in it.) or to visit others in nursing homes or hospitals.

I often had to deal with family issues that were not that funny, including ridicule of my Faith. Over time I learned to recognize my solitude as a gift and rare opportunity to be present to God. Sometimes we an be more lonely in the midst of people because of their attitudes and behaviors then if we stay by ourselves to celebrate this Glorious Day. Just a thought.

I’m alone too. We can all be alone together united in Christ : )

Merry Christmas everyone!

I empathize with your troubles. I come from a dysfunctional family too, in which holidays were often difficult.

I am newly arrived in a foreign country which is only 1% Christian, and have not made any close friends yet. I had an invitation to a Christmas Eve dinner, which would have been fun since everyone would have been speaking French, except to be polite to me. But, I ended up working a few hours, as I am on call for my work.

If you are looking for something to do, why not check out the local charities who are putting on Christmas dinner for the homeless in your area, and see if they would like another pair of hands to help serve the food, or perform other tasks? It would get you out of the house, and you might meet some of the other cool kids in town. It would take your mind off your family, and you would feel good for doing it.

I like EPAN’s idea…
Here’s my 2 cents:
Take out your Bible and re-read the nativity story. Then, take a piece of paper or a notebook and write a little reflection.
Starting points: How would you have felt had you been one of the shepherds there? Has the Child Jesus been born in your heart this Christmas? How?
Journaling is a wonderful thing, especially when we’re alone. Put your feelings and or prayers on paper. It’s a private and very therapeutic thing. Especially is the house is quiet. Who knows? You may turn out to be a great inspiration to someone with your words one day. Peace to you!

Good ideas epan!

OP: try to pray the rosary on Christmas and imagine the Blessed Mother listening by your side.

I have had relatives visiting from out of town since a week ago. A day hasn’t gone by where there hasn’t been some argument. I see a big argument brewing for Xmas day. At least you don’t have to deal with that!

Spend some time in prayer. Watch Mass on TV or internet. Watch a Christmas movie. I just watched ‘The Bishops Wife’ with Cary Grant, David Niven, and Loretta Young. A real classic.

Beautiful words. Yes, those who are alone on Christmas are very close to Jesus and can celebrate his birth in a very special way. The solitude can be a gift. God bless!

2 years ago my Dad died right before Christmas. After The funeral while at my parents I got a horrible virus and was the sickest I’ve ever been. I got better by Christmas Eve when it was just my Mom and I ( she has been sick and all the other relatives had left) I was not yet Catholic. Mom was in no mood for even some Christmas music - no food( it didn’t sound good) no gifts, nothing we had prior which I had associated with Christmas- just grief , missing dad. Mom went to bed early and I sat alone in the evening. It got late and I checked if there was a church to go to. That was when I went to the most Beautiful Christmas Mass ever!!! I came out of church continually exclaiming"Wow!"- my first real Christmas- alone. I will never forget that Christmas!
My prayer for you to be blessed this day,
mlz

Off the top of my head, I’ve counted 13 people alone for Christmas. Some never married and families are not here. One, who never married, has no one. No cousins not even distant cousins. Others are alone because their adult, usually male, kids spend ALL holidays with the the wives’ families. Others prefer to be alone rather than tangle with dysfunctional relatives.

What to do: Go out and see a happy movie…SAVING MR. BANKS would be my choice. Put on some Christmas music. Make some cookies and take them to someone who is alone today too. If you are near a big city, like NYC, get dressed, get out and walk among the people and take in the sights.

Personally, I do not believe the majority of people DO NOT have a Hallmark Christmas. I hope the OP can, one day, move out.

Looking back to yesterday, I rather enjoyed being alone. I enjoyed the Peace and Quiet. 🙂

Me too. Today, I got the news on how some spent Christmas day with relatives not showing up, others not wanting to eat dinner because they were going elsewhere 👋, others on diets,:nope: presents given out to some but not to all, kids not calling with thank you for mailed presents, dinner delayed three hours with nothing to eat because the hostess didn’t think, and others told to bring their own diet soda. The best one was telling one set of grandparents to arrive at 7AM to watch the kids open the presents. However, the other set, who live down the street, couldn’t make it until 10 AM, so everyone sat around for three:banghead: hours.
