Altar Server & Tabernacle

I was an alter sever and Eucharistic minster for years. I have had priests ask me to take to the ciboriums back and forth from the tabernacle at times because the needed me to for health reasons and they felt unsteady on their feet or they weren’t feeling well that day. These things happen.
Good example. Some of our priests are in their 80s and cannot walk up or down the steps without assistance at times or use the handicap ramp. And, in the absence of a deacon…
Pray for more to be called to the priesthood.

He’s not the pastor, he was a visiting priest. All of it was new and odd to me, and definitely wanted guidance on what do in these situations if they happen again.
Beginning and end of story: unless the bishop tells you otherwise, obey the priest.

Aanon123: As an Altar Server, my guess is that you’re quite young still. As a faithful servant of the church already and a concerned individual, I see you growing in the Church as an EM or Lector, or whatever way the Spirit leads you. I just have one piece of advise for you, get used to situations like this one, or you will never survive in ministry. As a music director for 36 years, if I were to let something like this get in my way of giving my service to the people and His Church, I would have been gone 35.5 years ago! The only common thread that every priest shares is the fact that they where called to serve and were ordained. Period. No cloning here; every priest is different in so many ways. Let go, obey, and survive.

Yes do what the priest asks or if he looks like he needs help, please do. We had an elderly (80+) priest fill in, who was struggling to open the tabernacle (apparently it is a little tricky if you’ve never opened it) and then almost fell off the stairs. My son who was serving went over and the priest had him open it, and take out the ciborium.
