During this past Holy Thursday the pastor had the altar servers wash his feet. I know about the problems with washing women’s feet, but this seemed a little strange. Any references you could provide that contradicts these actions and maybe a little guidance on how to address this issue with him would be appreciated.

Thank you.

The CDW, *Paschales Solemnitatis * states:

"The washing of the feet of chosen men [veri] which, according to tradition, is performed on this day, represents the service and charity of Christ, who came “not to be served, but to serve” [Matt. 20:28]. This tradition should be maintained, and its proper significance explained [PS 51]. "

Male altar servers may be invited to participate in the washing of feet on Holy Thursday. However, they must be “men”, not boys.
