CDC guidance is that masks should be worn when physical distancing is not possible, and so no, according to medical best practices, I do not have to wear a mask in the courtyard of my apartment complex.
What about in other places? Would you wear one in a grocery store? CDC says “it’s important for everyone to practice social distancing and wear cloth face coverings in public settings”.
Just my personal opinion. Altar servers may be close to the celebrant, elements, and Eucharistic vessels; therefore as a courtesy to others masks should be worn until such a time as they are no longer required. Given that many Masses have been celebrated without altar servers present during the pandemic there may be no requirement for them at all for a while.
Deacons here are allowed, but not servers, youth or adult (at our parish we have more adult servers than youth). I’ve heard of some dioceses where even deacons aren’t allowed to distribute Communion now, only the celebrant, masked & gloved.
