Altar serving

I am supposed to altar serve at a funeral this week for a close family friend along with my friend who is a seminarian and the grandson of the man being buried. He is planning on wearing a collar with his cassock and i was planning on wearing my cassock as well. As a male (18), would i be permitted to wear a collar in the confines of the Holy Mass? Thanks for your help.
 
you are not a priest or deacon, so no you may not wear a Roman collar.
 
the presider asked us to wear them, just for the sake of looking sharp i guess. I wore a collar serving at latin mass a lot but i never wore it like unless it was during mass.

I have seen Seminarians wearing them, too. I don’t think a layman can wear it, though - it would send a very confusing message.

Seminarians wear them, Sistine Chapel coirboys wear them, loads of altar servers wear them.
 
I am fairly sure that the use of such attire is regulated by your bishop and diocese. So in obedience to your priest, if he permits you to wear it, then you can be certain the bishop has allowed it as well.
 
Speak with your priest. If he wants you to, you should do it, but out of interest you should look around your diocese’s website and see if it has any regulations about the wearing of the Roman collar. I will look at my diocesan website as well.

If you were a priest or deacon, you could always wear one.

If you were a major seminarian, you would probably be allowed, unless you heard otherwise.

If you are simply a server, assume “no” unless the pastor or celebrant tells you to do otherwise in a specific situation.
