Altar

I am confused. How many steps should there be before a High Altar? On my parish, we have the old High Altar (not being used as an altar), but I saw it has only one step preceding it. It is a Cathedral.

However, I saw this:


It is found on the Left transept of the church.It was filled with many statues before, and I think they’re cleaning it. So I saw this in its ‘full glory’ except for that mini stairs in the middle. It is preceded by three steps.

Do you think what I have seen (in the photo) is an Altar before? Why would there be many altars in a church?

Is any of that movable?

It looks like an alter below the white steps and a place for statuary above. Are the steps there to help facilitate cleaning?

Have you thought to ask your parish priest about the history of the church?
