Many say that the Bible has been manipulated , altered, changed, version updated eg King james version, american version, greek, croat versions. etc… so how do we know and trust that the version we are reading is correct and true?

Why not just ask the Church (Diocese) on which it recommends?

I know you can’t go wrong with the New American Bible. Great Family bible with lots of footnotes,history,historical maps, prayers and much more.

I’m familar with about all the arguements made against the reliability of the Bible, but when someone does make an unspecific remark concerning “manipulated , altered, changed” I simply ask for examples. I have heard things like that from skeptics many times, and it usually comes from those who really don’t know what they are talking about and they have no intention in really finding out the truth about how realiable the Bible really is and how marvelously it has been preserved. Now some skeptics get very unsatisfying answers from the KJV only folks because basically thier logic and reason lacks much logic and reason.

But as for being manipulated and so on, the ancient Bible manuscripts are proof of quite the opposite. The Dead Sea Scrolls are the oldest Bible manuscripts of the OT that were discovered in the 1940’s. Some of them date back centuries before Christ, and they have done nothing but prove that the Old Testament has been preserved wonderfully! As for the anicent NT manuscripts there has been so many discoveries within the last 150 years that gives us manuscripts that take us back to nearly the time when they were written, which means that there were less scribal hands that could have brought errors.

The only common mistakes and errors that you find in the ancient Bible manuscripts are mis-spellings. There are some variant readings and even omissions and additions, but as a self taught textual critic I don’t rule out the idea that maybe the authors wrote their accounts more than once and may have given a little more detail in some places and less than others the more times that they wrote. I don’t blame all of it on scribes, I think some of it is legit. But maybe I am throwing too much out there too soon.

I beg to differ. Many Bibles have footnotes,history, historical maps and such. My Douay-Rheims has 3 encyclicals by 3 different popes I find the NAB notes quite disturbing and not answering my questions. I only consult the NAB anymore when I absolutely need to. It’s hard to go wrong with the Latin Vulgate and its English counterpart the Douay-Rheims.(in my opinion only). I am also disappointed in the revised Psalms, which were rejected by the Vatican and not used for Liturgy. RNAB Psalms are not much better. I don’t like the inclusive language in the NAB. I prefer a literal translation that is true the Catholic Faith and doesn’t deny any of Christ’s teachings.

I don’t agree with about the NAB. Not the best translation and the footnotes leave a lot to be desired. Opinion on the notes varies from bad to verging on heretical.
