I keep hearing Immaculate Heart radio say there are lots and lots of alternatives to Planned Parenthood without the massive abortion solution, but haven’t heard or any mention of where those alternatives are, specifically, and a google search for “alternatives to Planned Parenthood” sure doesn’t help… I would like as many posts to links to alternatives to Planned Parenthood as possible on this thread. Thanks.

Many of them are not chains and/or don’t have multiple locations. Crisis pregnancy centers offer prenatal care and counseling, and sometimes shelter for teen moms or victims of domestic violence.

Catholic Charities runs free/sliding scale clinics in many cities, and many midwifery practices offer gynecological and obstetric care even if patients can’t pay or have a limited ability to pay. Some “regular” or “traditional” OBGYN practices may do this too.

I know in my city the largest hospital system also runs a low income clinic.

I should also mention for clarity that none of these places, at least that I know of, offer abortion, though most of them offer. contraceptives.

The problem is that most of the places are more local and not country wide. So it is hard to say The big ones from the area I was from was Crisis Pregnancy Center. There were 2 locations that i knew of. They were owned by a fundamentalist group and wouldn’t let me volunteer there since I didn’t share some of their theological views. lol. But there are tons out there. You may want to try doing more local searches. Another problem is that many of these places don’t have a lot of funding, so they don’t have much in the realm of advertising.

As others have said, many of the alternatives are not national chains. This is the reason that they will not show up in a google search for “alternatives to planned parenthood”. However, most local centers would show up in a search for something like “Denver pregnancy center”. Here is an example, which is supported by Catholic Charities.

Here’s the thing, though. It’s not an alternative to Planned Parenthood. They don’t really do anything medical but give you a pregnancy test you can do at home and get an ultrasound and talk to you and give referrals. There are no pelvic or breast exams, not even blood pressure, no STD testing, no cancer screening … well, no medical services really at all and certainly no birth control.

All of that is referred out. I mean, it’s a place that does good work but it’s what it is and not an alternative for a low-income person who needs reproductive health care.

BTW, not all PP clinics do abortions, so you could just look for one that doesn’t and go there.

I do believe University Hospital at 8th and Colorado has an adult clinic that charges on a sliding scale. That might be an option.

The alternatives are crisis pregnancy centers which would be locally run. Call or contact Priests for Life, and they can put you in contact with such. Usually in the phone book, they would be under Abortion Alternatives

Low income clinics would be the alternative. That’s what our family has used until quite recently for every member of the family. A lot of times they’re named something like “(county name) health clinic”. And they do all the stuff a normal doctors office would do, which includes what PP does, plus some.

And as for PPs that “don’t do abortions”… I worked at a PP for a college class before my conversion. The one I worked at “didn’t do abortions”… and I believed that until the day I walked into a bloody room with everyone freaking out and was quickly pushed out (I think someone had been supposed to call me and tell me not to come in from the way everyone acted…).

There are alternatives to PP, but they aren’t mega businesses trying to make money… they’re actually trying to help people…

You can look up low-income health centers all over the country at this link, OP:

And did you confirm they were performing an abortion or did you just assume that? There are other reasons you could have seen something like this.

What I meant was, in some states, the local PP has many clinics, from 10-20. Not all of them are equipped for abortion, so maybe 12 of 18 clinics in that state will. Planned Parenthoods are kind of like franchises. Local clinics apply to become part of Planned Parenthood, which then allows them to use the logo, establishes standards of care and so forth. But each one in each state is it’s own separate non-profit organization.

Yep. And clinics funded by Title X cannot do abortions. In my city there are 15 or so clinics, but only 2 do abortions. When I worked for PP in college I lived in a city with 6 locations, and only 1 did abortions.

The Title X money can’t be used for abortions, but it’s not segregated by building. At least, not in the PP that I am familiar with. Perhaps yours did. But I’ll check in case I have this wrong. But the Title X money funds programs within clinics, not the clinics themselves.

Honestly, based on the stories I’ve heard from people who used to work at PP…and yes, I know that makes them “tainted” because they obviously just have an axe to grind with their previous employer …I can completely believe that RedSoxWife witnessed an abortion that wasn’t supposed to be happening. Maybe it wasn’t. But I would not be shocked if it was.

Their research arm fudges statistics, their political propaganda is ridiculous crud…I would not count them as a trustworthy source on what they do or do not do at any clinic. Sure, you may have the Abby Johnsons at a few clinics who are actually trying to work on keeping abortion numbers down, before they get fired for not turning enough of a profit.

Be sure and don’t give them your money, for any service.

Well, as I have said before, I have a close friend and relative who works in the administration of Planned Parenthood and no one is getting fired for not “turning enough profit.” My friend could make at least twice as much or more than her present salary if she worked in a for-profit business instead of a non-profit.

I did finally get hold of her and check on the Title X situation and it seems I was mistaken, they do segregate by building, as well as by accounting. She said something about Title XX or Title X buildings.

Planned Parenthood National organization collates information from all the various Planned Parenthood independents and puts out their annual report and their own 990. Each individual one files their own 990.

When some of these stories appear, the writers seem confused by this and might show statistics from say Planned Parenthood of New York and then compare that to national statistics and say someone is lying. Looks like they are unless you realize what it is, exactly, you are looking at.

In Washington State, all you need to do is have a positive home pregnancy test to get pregnancy medical. It covers the entire pregnancy plus 3 months postpartum.

I am considered high risk for the first 18 weeks. My doctors office still allowed me to get a blood test and gave me free medications until the my paperwork went through with the state.

There are a number of free and reduced price clinics in the Seattle area that will give you a pregnancy test for free. One clinic in particular gives out free prenatals as well.

It depends on what service of Planned Parenthood one is looking for – birth control? women’s health, like pap smears or STD testing? Pregnancy support?

I’m not sure what service in particular the OP wants – for example, if someone desires birth control, (which most non-Catholics in a marital situation would probably use at some point) but doesn’t want to go to Planned Parenthood, I doubt Catholic Charities is going to help. There are some federally funded clinics that might. On the other hand, there are many crisis pregnancy centers, Catholic and non-Catholic that would help with support. The one I volunteer with wouldn’t touch birth control with a ten foot pole, and we are not health care providers, either.

Planned Parenthood actually does provide many other services besides evil abortions. In order to find an alternative, I would need to know what service someone was looking for. I don’t think there is a place that does every PP does except abortions.
