**So my daughter (a professional 30 something, devoted Protestant) calls and tells me that instead of playing bunco, she and the group of young moms in her neighborhood sat around talking about issues and much discussion was on “sex toys”. As she goes in the conversation, my mind is screaming TMI, TMI and I’m simply saying… “oh, dear”. I think it is an abomination; yet, she tells me there are Christians who market these items… so, I googled “Christian sex toys” and lo and behold, there are, which only intensified my mortification! **
What are the thoughts on this? Has Christianity evolved this much or am I just a prude by believing God gave us ALL the equipment necessary for sexual intercourse. BTW… I believe that sexual intercourse is designed for pro-creation NOT recreation.
Thanks for listening~

Hello! Well- I’m 40- somewhere in the middle of your daughter and you, and I find the idea of “Christian sex toys” repugnant. What makes them “Christian?” Are there little crosses on them? I think Protestantism, since it doesn’t really condemn birth control, has a much more liberal stance towards sex “for fun and satisfaction” completely apart from procreation. Don’t get me wrong- I don’t see anything wrong with the unitive aspect of sex- certainly enjoyment and satisfaction are important, but not ALL important. Anyway, I think Catholics could use these within the guidelines of holy matrimony… but I still think discretion and modesty have a place, too. I personally can’t imagine using toys… I probably am a prude(!)- but I won’t condemn others for doing so. What I would definitely draw the line with is pornagraphy and erotica. I feel that takes the mind to an unholy place. That’s just my opinion, for what it’s worth! Also my opinion- why does there need to be “Christian” sex toys? It this just another attempt to make money off Jesus and people’s faith? YUCKK! Imagine what Mary is thinking when she sees this!

**Thank you Judie for your response (more importantly, the camaraderie!!). I’m really going to have to rely on the Spirit to guide me as how to “listen” to a daughter who feels so comfortable telling me anything. **
God bless you~

The bottom line is that there are no such thing as Christian Sex Toys, and anyone to tells you otherwise is falling for a marketing ploy. In other words they think you are too stupid that you will not fall for their marketing pitch. If anything you should be offended by the insult to you intelligence.

Such persons are NOT charitable, they are EVIL. STAY AWAY from them.

I should be shocked, but, I am not. Yes, this is a vile evil thing. Your daughter should know better.

Thank you all for your responses… I have not, nor will I succumb to the whims of modernity. The Holy Father says…
*** “An adult faith does not follow the waves of fashion and the latest novelty.”***
God bless you all~

I only converted two years ago… and witnessed much “evolution” in my fifty years as a non-Catholic Christian. We literally seen biological changes in the development of young girls and various animal species because of the birth control pill. Evolution is at work… sad, but true.

“Evolved” is not the word I would choose.

While I think the idea of Christian sex toys is stupid, I am not as shocked as the others on this board. While I agree that sex is for procreation, it is also a unitive experience shared by a husband and wife. I do not abstain from sex just because I am not fertile, sex is fun even when I am not going to get pregnant! I don’t think that lotions and things are evil in the bedroom. Yes I would stay away from some of the hard core stuff, but pretty lingerie and massage oils and other such “adult” offerings are fair game in my book. I will probably be attacked for my views, but I just wanted to share another point of view.

Well, I am my husband’s “Christian” sex toy, and he is mine!

😃

I loved where the person asked if they had “crosses” on them…

WOW! I’ve seen people use “Christian” in advertising all my life, but this has taken the cake!

 Now that’s an oxymoron if I ever saw one!

No you are not a prude. One thing is being prudent and another thing is being a “prude.” You are being prudent and most importantly, you’re being a Christian. Besides, if someone wanted to call me a prude if I was being a Christian and being prudent, then so be it, I’d be glad to be called a prude! 😃

😦 Oh Jesus, have mercy. Oh Mary please pray for us.

I agree with you about that.

One problem, though, is that (other than lingerie and oils) the stores or catalogs that sell these things also display the hard core stuff and I think that might present a real temptation to most men and more than a few women. Even the everyday catalogs that come in the mail often have a few pages that offer videos, manuals, and several types of vibrators. It’s a hard world in which to be chaste.

I think the “temptation” aspect is what bothers me most… some wise words once imparted to me (and stay with me) “don’t expose yourself to uneccessary risks”. I think the “tangible” toys fall in that category.
God bless you for responding~

I am embarrassed driving by a “toy” store much less thinking of going into one or actually making a purchase.

Never used or have ever seen a “toy” and I am the --------

Mom of 5

wow…I am 24…you would think I’d be into all of that stuff…nope…the idea of a sex toy is revolting to me. One of my girlfriends had a bachelorette party and was given a vibrator. First time I had ever seen one…made to look real…if you know what I mean. I felt nauseated…they thought I was lying when I said I didn’t own one or even want one

I just don’t understand

Guess I am a prude…

As far as the oils and lingerie I think that is perfectly acceptable. You can get oils at the drug store even so you don’t have to be tempted with the hard core stuff. Some women, due to biological reasons, need the oils in order to participate in the act.

I can’t even comment on the “Christian” Sex toy…

I agree that “Christian” anything is just a marketing ploy. Unless the Christian company or home business is actually manufacturing the toys themselves, these toys are probably manufactured by companies who also sell to pornographic sites and stores, so your money is possibly indirectly helping this industry out.

But as for Christians using sex toys, why not? Many women have a very hard time focusing and relaxing, especially when they are raising babies and young children. A sex toy can help a woman focus on her husband and the sexual act that they are about to enjoy instead of thinking about her To Do list or worrying about the toddler asleep in the next room.

As far as I know, these things are not forbidden between husbands and wives as long as their use is part of foreplay that leads to a complete sexual union that is open to life.
