I have wondered about the difference between spirit soul and body and have heard it explained that we are spirits with a soul living in a body and that our soul is made up of our mind, will, emotions and personality Is this true to Catholic teaching?

Thank-you judy bouff

Hi,

We are not souls that live in bodies. Our bodies are more than recepticals. Our bodies are us too. We are incarnate or fleshed out spirits. When our souls leave our bodies, our bodies die for awhile. But at the end of time, our resurrected bodies will be glorified and reunited with our souls.

Jesus’ body was Him. He redeemed us with His body. Our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. They are sacred. Sacraments were made for our bodies. Angels can’t receive sacraments. It is so good to be the way God designed us. Nowhere can we find a greater affirmation of being human than in the Catholic Church!
