Am I approaching praying in the wrong manner?

Sometimes when I have a problem whether seemingly big or small I have a tendency to include this in my Rosary and my novena and before I know it I am praying also to many saints and angels as well as the Trinity and Mary. A whole gang of saints.

Why the increase? Is it because I want to tackle this with a full army or because I am lossing Faith or Trust in my initial prayers and must increase?

I like to believe that I am merely adding Saints for extra help as opposed to not having Faith in the Rosary but how do I really know?

Is this acceptable?

Thanks.

Do not have faith in the Rosary, have faith in God. Through the Rosary we ask Mary to intercede for us before God. The Church has determined that the Saints intercede for us before God and we can have faith in the Church’s teaching on this for she has been given the power to proclaim such things.

Of course it is acceptable to call on more than one saint for your intentions. It’s like asking more than one earth-bound friend to pray for you.

As to your motivations…only you (and God) will know why you do what you do.

There’s really no “wrong”, Prayer is about your relationship with God, and it’s fine to invite as many “friends” as you want.

I don’t think anyone here could answer “why” you do that. But I think that unless you already were thinking that you were losing faith and trust, I doubt that’s the reason. If you try praying to God directly, and find that you feel more comfortable with saints and you keep going to the saints instead, I think that might speak more about your comfort level with God on a personal level…in which case I’d recommend a spiritual director to help you work through that (and determine if that’s ACTUALLY what’s going on. It’s impossible to know from posts in a forum). But as for the numbers of saints you ask to intercede…I have no idea. I don’t think it’s an issue.

Crossing the Threshold of Hope

Man is the priest of all creation; he speaks in its name, but only insofar as he is guided by the Spirit. In order to understand profoundly the meaning of prayer, one should meditate for a long time on the following passage from the Letter to the Romans: “For creation awaits with eager expectation the revelation of the children of God; for creation was made subject to futility, not of its own accord but because of the one who subjected it, in hope that creation itself would be set free from slavery to corruption and share in the glorious freedom of the children of God. We know that all creation isgroaning in labor pains even until now; and not only that, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits
of the Spirit, we also groan within ourselves as we wait for adoption, the redemption of our bodies. For in hope we were saved” (Rom 8:19-24). And here again we come across the apostle’s words: “The Spirit too comes to the aid of our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes with inexpressible groanings” (cf. Rom 8:26).

In prayer, then, the true protagonist is God. The protagonist is Christ, who constantly frees creation from slavery to corruption and leads it toward liberty, for the glory of the children of God. The protagonist is the Holy Spirit, who “comes to the aid of our weakness.” We begin to pray, believing that it is our own initiative that compels us to do so. Instead, we learn that it is always God’s initiative within us, just as Saint Paul has written. This initiative restores in us our true humanity; it restores in us our unique dignity. Yes, we are brought into the higher dignity of the children of God, the children of God who are the hope of all creation.

Pope Saint John Paul II

I think it isn’t you recruiting saints, but the Holy Spirit showing you are not alone.

Peace

Sounds to me like you are making new friends. Isn’t that good? They are real and are interested in you, so why not just have a chat with one of them now and again from your heart. Then thank him/her for listening. We are one big family.
