I try to pray every night and when I do I pray for forgiveness of my sins but I don’t mention what they are, am I still being forgiven by god or am I even being forgiven for asking for forgiveness while I’m praying

A general act of repentance in the morning/night is a pious practice. A person isn’t necessarily meditating on specific sins.

It is a good practice to make a general act of repentance daily as the other person said.
If you are Catholic, remember that you should also go to confession regularly (once every month or two is usually sufficient, unless you commit a grave sin in which case you should go as soon as possible) in order to be absolved of your sin and receive the grace to avoid sin.

A general act of penance forgives sins. But,confession is still important and needed.
