Am I Being Too Difficult?

I would focus on the name calling before the swearing, as others have said. Your kids will never forget being called a b***h by their own mother. I was belittled and called names by my dad. I will never, ever forget it as long as I live. I have forgiven him and I love him, but I’ll never forget that feeling. I can recall those times like they were yesterday, down to what I was doing and where I was sitting/standing. Maybe you should tell your wife this.

I grew up in an abusive household and I too tend to drop the F-bomb when I’m angry. I have never directly said “F-ing do it!” or anything like that, but if my kid breaks something, I have said, “For F sake!” and then I am like oops. I apologize to my kids when I screw up and I have to put money in my dd’s piggybank when she hears me.

I would never call my children a name other than “silly billy” or “silly <>” and it’s more of a joke and they laugh. I also sometimes call then a “little bugger” and it makes them laugh. I’ve also jokingly called my kids things like “poopie head” and “dirtly diaper” and they are on the floor laughing their heads off.

I personally think joking around is ok, if it’s innocent fun and you’re not hurting any of their feelings.
