Am I being unchristian when I don’t FEEL like doing something for someone. I still do that good deed for them but I really didn’t FEEL like or want to do it. The person is grateful for what I did but I didn’t really want to. Is it wrong to feel this way? Am I being a hypocrite?🤷

No, you are not a hypocrite, or unchristian. If you read about Jesus’ experience in the Garden before the crucifixion it is plain that He did not “feel” like suffering a gruesome death, either.

This is the full meaning of taking up our cross, and carrying it daily as we follow Him. It means we set aside our flesh, and sometimes our emotions, to do the right thing.

Hopefully, as we discipline ourselves in doing right, our feelings will follow along, like the cars of a train follow the engine, but Scripture is clear that it is the one who DOES the will of the Father that will find life.

Thank you for your wonderful response.

Love is a choice - an act of the will. Emotions are lower passions that are capable of misleading us. While we should not harbor a grudge when doing good works, we should also not be discouraged if we are not floating on Cloud 9 whenever we choose to do good.

No, you’re following Jesus’ command to “love thy neighbor as thyself”, as CS Lewis helpfully explained. We can’t magically conjure the feelings of love, but we can perform the acts of love no matter how we feel. Far from being un-Christian, your actions were remarkably Christian.

Sometimes when I’m doing something “good” that I don’t really want to be doing, I pray that God will change my heart while I’m doing it (or after).

-]/-]Your just being “human” . Jesus asks us not only to did his work with our hands but with our hearts and minds. Tall orders and not easy. The Beatitudes are not for sissies.

You won’t always feel good about doing good.

Hypocrisy to teaching others to practice something that you yourself do not practice. It’s like telling your little sister or brother to wear a seat belt when you yourself have not and do not wear a seat belt.
