Am I Catholic?

Hello everybody! My mother is a Latin Rite Catholic and we have been attending a Catholic Church since I was 2.

Now I’m 15, and I have not yet done confirmation, first communion etc. But I was baptized, but it wasent in the Catholic Church ( I was baptized in trinity which is valid )

Now I have forms to sign for this religion club thing at my school and it’s asking for my religion. I don’t know what to put because how can I even be catholic if I wasn’t baptized a Catholic?

People even asked my religion and I don’t know what to say.

Any suggestions as to what I can say?

You need to go to your parish priest and tell him what you have told us. If your mother brought you into full communion with the Catholic Church when you were two, there will be a record of it in the parish register.

What denomination were you baptized into? And why?

If she did bring you into full communion, you are a Catholic and you need to talk to your priest about completing the sacraments of initiation.

If your mother did not bring you into full communion with the Church, you are not a Catholic and will need to complete RCIA, make a profession of faith and receive Eucharist and Confirmation.

What have you been doing this whole time? Have you been attending religious education? Why have you not received these additional sacraments at the appropriate time?

Also, you have in parenthese “Maronite Rite”. Why do you believe you are a Maronite Rite Catholic?

If its a public or secular school, they are only interested in knowing your religious preference, and that is still Catholic even if you aren’t technically a member.

You can elaborate when you need to.

I was baptized non denom because that was the religion my mom was at the time, no I have not taken religion classes which is a long story I will not share, and the reason I have put the Maronite Rite as my religion is because I have been talking with a Maronite priest who has just received me into the church but hasn’t completed the sacraments which means I’m not in full communion. I have not finished because this church is miles away and I use to live next to this parish.

This is not accurate. If you have been received into the Church then you are a Catholic. Receiving the additional sacraments of initiation are not what make you Catholic, the reception into full communion is.

Wow I didn’t know that, there’s only one little problem and it’s that I haven’t had any contact with this priest. If I was to tell the priest I have now that I was received into the church and he wanted to contact that priest to make sure, how will I if I don’t have any contact?

Will I have to get received into the church all over again?

Just go talk to your current priest, tell him all the details, and he wills ort it out. Leave it up to your priest to guide you.
