Hi everyone,

It has been ages since I regularly posted on these forums, but I have come back. I hope I will be on more often.

Lately, a few events in my life have helped strengthen my Faith, but I do have one issue.

A girl at work has been going through the IVF program, and just last week some embryos were made, and implanted in to her yesterday.

During this process, she has been keeping me informed, and I have kept listening to her and smiling, but deep down inside, I feel IVF is wrong.

Can someone one please tell me, is IVF against our Church’s teachings?

And am I denying Christ when I tell this girl “good luck” each week? Should I be politely giving her my objections?

I am looking forward to hearing your points of view 🙂

Yes it is against Church teaching as several embryos may be conceived and discarded which is equivalent to abortion.

Moreover there is evidence that it causes a higher rate of birth defects. There is no “natural selection” of sperm cells. In natural fertilization, the strongest swimmer more often than not gets the prize 😃

In IVF any old sperm cell will do.

It really is a bad idea.

If you want my opinion: infertile couple, meet unwanted baby…

Thanks 🙂
I thought as such.
But I am still concerned that I should be trying to spread the Truth some more.

Respectfully object to her decision and explain why. I missed the chance to speak up when one of my friends was deciding on if she should get an abortion or not. She came to me and asked me what I felt and thought about it and I didn’t say anything. I will never forget that day, and how if maybe I just said something that child would be alive today. I confessed my sin and vowed that I will never be silent when asked.
