I posted this in the prayer intentions forum, I am also posting it here as I’m a new father and wanted to get some (name removed by moderator)ut from people that might have also had similar circumstances. I’m not even sure what I’m asking for by posting this hear.

I have worked very hard for the past 3 years, not earning a dime, learning my craft (market speculation/trading) more and more. I have always prayed for help, guidance and really have struggled with my family supporting me all along the way, they have been nothing but supportive. Before I got into this business I read articles about a guy that has achieved the success I have always wanted to reach. His interviews and articles is what really helped me leave my former job to pursue this on my own. I was fortunate enough the develop a friendship with him over the past 3 years, which I have learned a lot from and given me inspiration to keep going and learning.

These past few months have been very tough. I have a 4 month old baby who has really changed my perspective on my life and whats important. I continued to pray for help and guidance on what I should be doing, continue this career or leave it and go to something more stable. Of course I would prefer to continue this as its my real passion, but I felt like I needed someone in my corner to continue this. I asked God for help, for someone to come into my life at this point to help me along this journey. Well, God has listened and the person that inspired me years ago to get into this business has offered his help, inviting me to join him in his office (versus just email correspondence). This is an opportunity very few people get, and I’m taken aback by this, and since have gotten this been overly emotional about it, not sure why. Most of my life I have had to really fight for things, and this is something that usually doesn’t happen to me. My wife is very supportive and couldn’t be happier, I on the other hand am really torn about this. We would have to sell our home(Chicago), move to a place I’m not familiar with (NYC), take my little girl further away from her grandparents for this. I plan on visiting him in a few weeks, and I am praying for help making this decision as this will be the biggest risk I have ever taken and I do not want to endanger my family by my decision.

It seems that you have followed the new age mentally to quit your job and go for your dream.

Your job is to keep a job (as long it is honest) and provide for your family. If this job offer a revenue to provide for the needs of your family, i wouldn’t ditch this but it is your decision. You have responsibility with your child. If you have doubt or fear, then perhaps God is trying to tell you something.

I would pray God and ask him for guidance.

I pray for you to have all the support that you need!

Is this possible to resume to your old job or go with something stable? Your job is to keep a job (as long it is honest) and provide for your family.

It is pretty clear that God doesn’t seem to want to support you in this decision.

What is done is done, so what i would do, i would pray God and ask him for guidance. If this is a meant to be that you stick with this business to help to make it prosperous if not to guide you to the perfect job so you could be a great husband, father and provider.

I pray for you to have all the support that you need!

I’m confused by this post, especially by the statement I put in bold. The OP has not quit his job. He has spent three years working for no pay as training for a job that he just recently got a great opportunity in to further his career, but is now worried about moving his family and the effect it will have on them. How is he quitting his job to follow his own personal dreams???

I didn’t realize that he has his job still but nevertheless, the new age tendency is to encourage people to quit their job and do what they were born to live. Clearly, he wants to do this. I know it seems great and wonderful but you need to be careful with this. Many has quit their job because of this fever of manifesting etc…I know many that struggle financially and they still think somehow they just need to manifest. Well, this path isn’t the path that lead to heaven.

Unless you feel this great sense of peace with your decision, i would be careful with making dramatic change before praying for guidance.

How is taking a risk for a particular career goal (unless it is immoral itself) not the path to heaven??? That’s absurd…

I still don’t get what you are saying. Unless I am misunderstanding the OP This man and his family have sacrificed for 3 years so that he could get the experience he needs to get a job in his chosen field. Now he has just been handed an amazing opportunity to get a head start in this same career that he has and his family have spent 3 years working towards. It is not just him, but his family, that is excited for him and wants him to do this. I don’t understand why you think it would be wrong for him to take this opportunity simply because it is an opportunity in an area he would love to work in. There is nothing wrong with loving your work. To be honest, I still don’t understand why the OP is questioning this as much as he is, it seems like an excellent opportunity and one that both he and his family have worked hard to receive, I say go for it! 👍

that’s how i read it too.
i say go for it, there doesn’t seem to be any job security these days and it’s always going to be a risk. trust yourself that you will make sure your child gets fed if you have to beg in the streets.
personally, i think that moving the family is a bad idea, usually if the dad goes alone it’s easier for him to find cheaper accomodations, then when things are more settled the family should follow.
i’ve seen this situation play out quite a bit in my work and while it means that dad is taking the risks most of the time it works better because he knows his family is safe.
of course, i remember when JFK tried it with Jackie and the kids and she refused to go to safety, same thing with the Queen of England during ww2.

You’re being so careful about how you handle this that I have great faith your family will always have their needs met. Go for the work you love and trained for, your case is no different than a nurse who studies for three years with no pay, and there are better examples. Just because you think you’ll enjoy the work doesn’t mean that you’re not doing the right thing!

I’ll be praying that God reveals where He is leading you to live out His plan for you.

BUT, what a great opportunity! At least from the way you describe it. How many people would LOVE to work with their mentor in their chosen field. Yes, moving can be tough, especially to a city you are not familiar with and being away from family can be tough too. But so many people pray to have the opportunity you’ve been given.

I think what I’m hearing is that you are uncomfortable with the feeling that you earned this opportunity. You’re uneasy because you didn’t have to really fight for it, like before in your career. It can be unsettling when the hard work finally pays off because its so new and different. Its ok to feel a little uneasy, but don’t let that uneasiness override the fact that you earned this opportunity, you did work for it and this mentor sees all that in you.

I’d go to NY and meet with this mentor. I’d continue to pray as well, but its ok to be rewarded and to be happy in your job and chosen profession, especially if that’s where God is leading you.

Thank you. Just to clarify, yes I quit my old job 3+ yrs ago to pursue what I’m currently doing. Now this opportunity has come to me and I’m scared. I’m scared now that I would be taking my family who is comfortable and safe, move them across the country for a shot at my dreams. I’m to the point where either I do this, continue on the path I set out on 3+ yrs ago, or I throw in the towel on this career. Like I said I’m not sure why I posted this, everyone is really excited for me as they have seen my hardwork and prayers yield an opportunity few ever get. I’m just scared and need some of gods direction.

I think you are being offered a great opportunity. But you need to try it out before even thinking of moving your family that far. If you go alone and try to make this job work, give yourself a set period of time in your mind. (6 weeks for example.) At the end of that time, evaluate the situation. See if it is something that can work for you and for your family. It does sound like things are moving in your favor. You do not want to look back someday and wonder “what if…” if you don’t even try.

How is your family being supported right now though? Will they still have that support if you go to NYC to investigate this job?

As a former NYer, of course I say go for it. NY is like no where else. 😉
May God bless you and guide you. 🙂

Exactly. I think the fact that something is paying off, let alone the opportunity to work 1 on 1 with someone who inspired me to pursue this is daunting. Kind of feel unworthy in some aspect.

I agree, I would love to go out there for a 6 week run (which he also suggested, knowing moving a family would be tough). I guess if its god’s plan he will show me the way.

Will you be paid to work with him? Or is this part of your training?
I do think this can be a factor in your decision making.
Like others have said, this is a decision you made with your family, and if this is the next step up then it is great that you are being given this opportunity!

I am not familiar with the field you are looking to work in, and given the fact that you have been training in this for 3 years, you have probably looked into this, but I wanted to bring up to make sure that this isn’t a scheme of some sort (like I mentioned, I am not familiar with what you mentioned, I just know there are some people out there that make money off of promoting stock methods, business practices etc that aren’t really solid. One good way to gage this is whether your mentor was successful in the trade, or in a business that trains others for the trade. (Once again, I might be totally off with this, but I wanted to bring it up just in case.)

You didn’t quit your job 3 years ago, your whole family made a decision that this was a worthwhile career, one that they were willing to spend years sacrificing for. Its not just you who are invested in this career at this point, but your family as well. I think it is a great idea to move out there yourself first for a while to make sure that it will work out before moving your whole family out, but go for it, it sounds like a great opportunity, Congratulations. 🙂

You’ve come this far, might as well check out NYC with maybe some on again, off again trips if you can pull it. It sounds like you have a good and understanding family. Travel happens, having a great wife helps make it easier.

Would accepting the NYC gig give you an income immediately, or would you be continuing without one? I guess this point confuses me a bit. I think if you don’t have an income and it’s not guaranteed, get that nailed down and continue refining your trade in the dream.

You have worked hard, and you have prayed, and your prayers have been answered.

It sounds like you are feeling the right natural fatherly feelings, that will motivate you to make sure your family are happy and comfortable when you move there.

I’d start working out how, concretely, you’re going to do that if/when you decide to go. 🙂

…and you know, congratulations! 😃

I have but one question, if you don’t mind? When you asked for God’s help did you do it in silent prayer, or did you pray aloud? Your answer will be very beneficial to me.

Thanks.

Much Peace!

Mike 🙂

Thank you all. Like I said I didn’t know what to really expect by posting this, so thank you for the kind words.

When I prayed, it was both. Like I said, it was a continuous process, I have always prayed for help/guidance/success in my endeavors. Sometimes I would breakdown in tears from frustration/fear ect so that would cause me to pray out loud. I have always felt that god won’t give us too much that we can’t handle it, and he will help us along the way, his path might just be a little different. Don’t lose faith in him.

You don’t need to get it, my post was for him alone. It is up to him to discern and make his own decision.

All the best!
