If I Go to confession and I forget to confess a mortal sin; is that sin I forgot to confess forgiven?

According to the Church, yes. If you remember the sin latter (and it is a mortal sin) then you need to confess it at your next confession. If it’s bothering you, ask your priest for an appt. for confession.

Hi,

If you genuinely forgot then yes. But you must confess it as a sin from the past that you remembered at your next confession.

Yours in Jesus, mary and Joseph

John

I’ve never understood the need to confess a forgotten sin in the future, should I remember it. What is the point of this? It’s forgiven. It seems to create a needless amount of “baggage”, in that I could spend more time confessing past, forgiven sins than I could on the “new” sins. It just doesn’t make sense. If someone could enlighten me on this, I’d appreciate it. I guess what I’m trying to say is, how can one feel forgiven if they happen to remember a sin sometime in the future and have to confess it? It would drive me nuts, and I’d probably be at the Confessional every day.

Peace,
Mike

That’s the problem with you contemplative types. You keep trying to make sense out of things. 😉

I have to agree, it invites scrupulosity. However, it may be necessary for pastoral reasons

I’ll try to make sure it doesn’t happen again. 🙂

You must remember though that if you PURPOSEFULLY omit a mortal sin that, not only is that sin not forgiven, but you are commiting another sin as well, a sin of OMISSION. There are two types of sins:
Code:
             -Commission
             -Omission

Suppose someone were to go to confession and list there sins and tell all their mortal sins, then the priest were to ask them if they were in the habit of commiting a mortal sin which they mentioned and they were to reply that they were not really in the habit , when in fact they were. Would this be a mortal sin and would it invalidate the confession?
