Am I Getting too Close to the Tiber?

Of course he will… He’ll be wishing that you would’ve brought a towel over to the other side then tell you to run!

Don’t think too much about a vocation to the religious life at this present time. Firstly, you need to convert because you believe in ALL that the Catholic Church teaches, and not because it is easier to become a priest.

Secondly, I would strongly advise you to deepen in your spiritual life as a lay person before you even consider your vocation. I would leave it for a couple of years so that you can truly decide which Church you are called to serve.

This is a massive, massive decision. Take baby steps first and do a lot of praying. Sometimes you just have to stop thinking and let God take control. Give him the wheel, and let him steer your life.

Pray the Rosary for guidance and discernment.

My interest in ordained ministry has been a fairly long-term one and I can think of no other passion I have (in terms of a vocation I mean).

And remember that for Anglican who is fairly Anglo-Catholic, it is not that big a decision or jump as it were. After all, I have been/am getting dangerously close to the Tiber.

I may well be about to swim the Tiber. I met with the Parochial Vicar at the Roman Catholic Church/Student Center near my house and have admitted that I feel that I am near-certain that I intend to “swim the Tiber”. Since I was already Baptized awhile ago, have studied Church History and stuff and am an active and Confirmed Anglican, I may be able to bypass the RCIA process and simply study the Catechism and other writings on my own and then make a profession of faith.

So, I am probably 90% certain that I will end up Roman Catholic.

I am taking RCIA though only because you learn more… but all I need to do is study the Catechism and swim to the other side of the Tiber…

I’m 99.99999% sure that I will end up Roman Catholic so the more you study the more you will know for a fact!

Uh-oh…studying Church history and the Catechism is a sure fire way to land you straight into the Tiber. My dear husband described it, that after you even so much as dabble in Church history, you have no choice. The truth hits you square between the eyes. You must become Catholic. This is the Church Jesus founded. Not a bunch of squabbling denominations. This is the Church He sweat blood for in the Garden of Gethsemane, the one He died for on the Cross.
