Am I going to Hell?

First I would ask you, do you believe in Christ, next do you believe the Bible to be the word of God. Do you believe that there is a right and wrong. Man has a problem with wanting to enjoy Sin, and still wants to have eternal life. However we are here to learn to choose Good over Evil. which means The Lord knew we would Sin, break his laws, and commandments. Our problem in experiencing Sin, is we have a desire to stay in it, or embrace it. That is why the Atonement was put forth, God new we would sin and since we cannot inter the presence of God in Sin, HE sent his son to atone for these sins which we have committed. But the Atonement only applies to those who believe in Christ and except his Atonement for us. To believe in Christ and Be Baptists by those who have the proper authority. Which means, not everyone holds this divine power which comes from heaven and not a self appointed minister of any kind. You have some truth in you or some light in you or you would not be concerned about where you are going after life. You need to ask yourself this Question. Not where am i going, put where do I want to go, The Heaven and Hell is interesting. Christ taught In my fathers house are many mansions, were it not so, I would of told you, I go to prepare a place for you. john 14:2-3 Remember there is no sin that you can’t be forgiven for, or that the atonement of Christ doesn’t cover.
God bless you in your search for truth.

Hell sounds like a really bad place. One thing that does confuse me somewhat is that many other religions have their own concepts of eternal damnation and I do not adhere to those religions either. This potentially opens me up as a candidate to numerous sites of eternal damnation upon my death. How will it be decided which religion’s hell lays claim to me? Will I have to rotate between several?
Of course not, That is the problem with all these sects of so called truths. This is why you are confused. Which of the these churches it true. They all have different beliefs but all claim the truth, is this how you feel. heplersvideo@hotmail.com

I’m not intending in any way to be mocking or uncharitable. Please do not construe my questions that way. I’m trying to learn.

You raise a good point though. If I don’t believe in hell, can I still go there? I still don’t understand what hell would be like (other than the general firey pits stories). What would I do on a day to day basis in hell?
Why are you interested in going to hell, to find out what it is like? You have a interesting mind set, for seeking truth, I believe you will find it. So keep looking. Don Hepler

No offense, but those are both silly questions.

After death, you will go to whatever actually exists, regardless of your beliefs. This is true for all of us. As Catholics, we believe in God, heaven and hell.

You asked if you are going to hell and what will it be like, and it is very clear from a Catholic perspective what will happen to you. As we believe this is the Truth, you can’t avoid it by not believing in God or hell, nor are you a candidate for other options of eternal damnation, as they don’t exist.

That’s quite interesting. So if I understand right what awaits me after death is reality. It just so happens that Catholics are the only group with direct insight into that post-death reality.

It sounds like that means that the millions of non-Catholics in the world are going to the Catholic hell upon their deaths.

It really isn’t for us to say who goes where when or why. We can make deductions based on the Revelation we have received from God, but that’s all. I think that turning away from God is hell, because God is the truth of our being. There are many claims in our lives, many people saying they are the only ones who truly know the answer. If you seek the truth in your heart, you’re already a good part of the way there IMO. I can’t see that God would condemn anyone who was genuine and honest about their quest.

I would recommend you read the New Testament as well though, I think that we cannot dismiss what Jesus had to say on the subject!

Peace

Mark.

Hmm…you say you are not mocking, but that is a mocking tone. Do you expect every religious group in the world to be agnostic?

Not necessarily. Everyone is in God’s merciful hands, so we can’t and wouldn’t state that all non-Catholics will go to hell (it’s not Catholic hell, it’s just hell). That is God’s judgement call, not ours. However, through the Bible, Tradition, and the teaching of the Magisterium, we do know what is necessary for salvation.

The principal suffering of hell is being deprived of the vision of God. As a non-believer now, that does not sound too bad to you, I’m sure.
So if I understand right what awaits me after death is reality.
The reality is, completely independent of your belief or lack thereof, you were created by and for God. When everything else is stripped away - all the things on earth that attract you - the reality that is left is God, or the absence of God.

Daily life in hell is the painful, searing reality of the absence of that for which you were created - your ultimate purpose, and knowing that you will never finish with the suffering. To paraphrase the popular hymn, Amazing Grace, when you’ve been there ten thousand years, you’ve no less days than when you’d first begun.

God alone knows the circumstances under which you lost your childhood faith, or whether indeed you ever received the gift of faith, and He, the embodiment of both mercy and justice, will judge you accordingly.

While I lead a very productive and moral life (moral in the sense that I respect others, do not intentionally cause harm to others and generally try to help my fellow human) I do not attend church, and I do not have a belief in a supernatural being.

I’ve never committed an act that would be considered criminal under any local, state or federal law (other than minor parking and moving violations). I have full time job and have always paid taxes. I served in the military and I have done charitable work since I was a teenager.

I was baptised as an infant by a Catholic priest. I completed communion during grade school and was later confirmed. I no longer participate in the church since I am an adult and nobody can force me anymore to do so.

Assuming that I continue with my current path, will I go to hell? If so, what awaits me there?
To answer your question…most likely yes, unless you confessed to a priest on your deathbed. I could be wrong, but I knew I was going there for sure the way I was living.

I came back to the Church a little over 8 weeks ago with the help from my Brothers and Sisters here. I was away from the church around 35-40 years. Baptisized as a baby, first communion and confirmation. Private Catholic schools while growing up, the whole thing.

I became an adult and said to myself “Who needs the Church”
I can do what I want now.
I lived in mortal sin. Promiscuous, never attended Mass, used the Lords name in vain as a regular routine.

In another note,

I am kind to people, I am always friendly, I do not break the law, I was happy. No one to account to but myself. I was the God of me.
but
There was always something missing in my life. It wasnt money, my health, friends or toys.

It was my Family that was missing. My Catholic Family.
My Father - God
My Mother - Mary
and all my Brothers and Sisters - The Church

I am on my 8th week of Church. I look forward to the next Mass and the receiving of the Eucharist.

I look around before the Mass starts and see people praying, saying the rosary, eyes closed and opening their hearts to Jesus.
I get tears in my eyes and regret the years I was away from him.

Weird…I was so wrapped up in myself that I gave up something so precious …my Faith.

No one can tell you for sure “where” you will go when you die, because we don’t know why you take the position you do. However, the tone of your post is worrying to me. Your relationship to God does not depend on whether you are a decent, respectable person who hasn’t committed criminal acts. It depends on whether you open yourself to His grace or whether you shut yourself up in the prison of your own ego. Morality (in the external, respectable sense) can be a very effective lock on the door shutting you away from God. And the more you pride yourself on your morality, the more likely it is that your “righteousness” is functioning to separate you from God.

You are right: no one can force you to go to church any more. And even more amazingly, no one can force you to go to heaven (in the traditional sense–a blessed state of enjoying the presence of God). But when you die there will be nowhere to go but the presence of God. If you have made yourself the kind of person who does not enjoy God’s presence, then you have only yourself to blame if you are miserable for all eternity.

So what kind of person are you becoming? That’s the only truly important question you will ever be asked about yourself.

Imagine,
Hell is a very real place. It is the complete absence of the presence of God. Right now you have His presence even if you do not realize it. Every day you live is a merciful blessing from God.
It sounds as though the life you are leading is above reproach. I appreciate your ability to be a productive citizen. However, you are missing out on something very special - a relationship with Jesus Christ through our Mother, the Church. Why not try to go to a Eucharistic Adoration and just pray? See what happens.
Or go back to a Mass.
My husband was an agnostic for many years and had lost all his faith. What he did was pray the prayer of the man in the New Testament: “Lord, I believe. Help my unbelief.” It took a while but eventually my husband was able to feel the presence of God again.
Why not try it? What would it hurt? If there’s nothing out there, you won’t have lost anything but a few minutes in prayer.
And you might be surprised at how God may answer your prayer.

Charitable work is not enough. If you do not beleive in a supernatural being(GOD) you should not beleive in Heaven or Hell either. If you don’t beleive in GOD than you are being “good” in vain. If you continue on with your current path you will go to Hell. As far as what awaits you there, try being eaten alive by Satan and having your intestins ripped out and being set on fire and not being able to die, for eternity!
I PRAY THAT YOU WILL TURN TO GOD AND BE SPARED OF ETERNAL DAMNATION! GODBLESS!

Wow, having my intestines ripped out would hurt (although I would probably be indifferent as to them being set on fire afterwards since the damage would have already been done at that point).

So being good to other people doesn’t count for anything if you don’t believe in a supercreator?

Hmm, I think you misread something to have discerned a sense of “righteousness” from my post. I’m far from perfect and have probably committed many thought crimes (i.e. sins under religious doctrine). So a thoughtless, murderous criminal who repents and accepts your brand of theology is in a better position in front of God than a law abiding, human loving atheist? God seems to encourage the wrong type of behavior.

Really? A “thoughtless, murderous criminal” shouldn’t be encouraged to repent? What do you think he should be encouraged to do?

The point is that your placing a higher value on submission to an imaginary diety than the fair treatment of fellow humans.

Only slightly higher…

Matthew22:
36 “Teacher, 21 which commandment in the law is the greatest?” 37 He said to him, 22 “You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. 38 This is the greatest and the first commandment. 39 The second is like it: 23 You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 24 ***The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments.” ***
Now, can you explain how Atheism places a high value on the fair treatment of human beings? If I understand Atheism correctly, you and the “thoughtless, murderous criminal” are 100% equivalent - you will both rot in a box (or not, if that’s your preference) at the end of your life, and there is no reason for repentance…unless it brings you some selfish benefit. Correct?
