Am I In A Bubble?

So I was reading a recent article about Michael Keaton and his faith. That article referenced a Jimmy Fallon article about his faith. Fallon grew up Catholic, went to Catholic school, was an alter boy,etc. He fell away from the church and tried to come back at one point in his life. That didn’t last long and his reasoning talked about live bands, beach balls, no solemnity,etc. and that he missed the old mass and this new mass isn’t holy enough and it has changed too much.

So then I read another similar article on the same subject and read comments at the bottom

and they echoed jimmy’s feelings.

Couple things:

1. Sounds like he went to a nondenominational .TV church to me and not a Roman Catholic mass.
2. Maybe I live in a bubble but growing up in Oklahoma, which has a small Catholic population but a very high protestant concentration, I have never been to a Catholic mass that is described in the articles I read. zero. Is Catholicism changing in the bigger cities in America? Are live bands and light shows and loud music getting woven into the mass? this is totally news to me.
3. Jimmy isn’t much older than me…when did most places stop offering the latin mass b/c I don’t recall ever going to one growing up and I was in catholic school.

Many folks would like us to believe that these odd Masses are the norm, but they are not.
People who stay away from the Mass because they don’t “like” the Mass the way it’s offered, simply need to find another parish. Anything else is an excuse.
Much of the Latin went away in 1964-1965. I remember it. I remember being delighted when it was offered in English too. Those who still prefer the Latin, can find such just about anywhere.
I really get tired of these “I used to be Catholic” stories. It seems like they want to encourage others to toss away their faith.
My faith is not dependent on the music, or the homilist, or the person next to me in the pew.
I’ve been to some really odd parishes and some beautiful ones.
Taking one’s faith seriously also takes some work **on our part. **

I agree. However if there were parishes around the states that were becoming more “lights and dazzle and entertainment” themed, I would definitely be put off by it as a Catholic. The articles make it sound like this is going on everywhere and I have never seen it. Shoot the drums are only busted out for Xmas and Easter!

Of course it does. People want to dismiss the Mass as not necessary.
Many agendas at work here.
Don’t worry, my parish is just fine, as I’m sure yours is.

It is what we put into the Mass that helps us to receive what the Lord wants to give us. (faith, gratitude, adoration, etc.)

I know I do not have to seek out a Latin Mass in order to receive the graces the Lord is all too willing to give.

And, of course, it is good to work on many things with patience, so that the Mass will be celebrated with great reverence.

that is why in upsets me so much. I realize that people might miss the OF of the mass but if you can’t see God in the new form then it isn’t something wrong with the mass. it is something internal and selfish imo.

I just want to be able to talk to these celebrities and say stop! The Church is still the Church. It isn’t the Church that has changed, it is you! If you don’t like it anymore ok, but stop spreading lies about the Church…especially publically!
