Wrong. The Vatican almost never grants permission to change Rites.

I understand the Canon very well. You never heard of it before I quoted it to you, so your instruction to me is hardly appreciated.
You might do us a favor, then, to change your determination at Roman Catholic, if in truth you have never been baptised.
Canon 112: Change of Rite. Read it for yourself.

No, you are correct. You can switch Churches if you so desire. All you need is the permission of the bishop of the church you are transfering to and maybe that of the church you are coming from. I have several friends who have made this change or are going through it. There are also several people on this forum who have made the change. Lakayarabb is one. I think Allyson, Woodstock, and GregoryPalamas are all transfered from the Latin Church.

In one way you are correct. All Protestant Churches are in one way or another related to Roman Catholicism. However, I have technically never been a Roman Catholic. I converted from being a United Methodist Minister to being a Byzantine Catholic straight away. Father mentioned some Vatican considerations in my case but I have no idea what they were and didn’t really care. I knew where God was calling and I went there.

I miss spoke in your case I guess but there are others who have translated over. I know Allyson is one of them. I know that Lakayarabb is one who is in the process of translating over to the Melchite Church.

I look forward to being an Eastern Catholic, that is of course assuming that I can keep my Catholic faith, Eastern Orthodoxy is taking a real toll on me. I guess we will see where I will end up. Oh well at least I escaped Protestantism.

I will keep you in my prayers. Check out the Ruthenian Church and learn the tradition which they follow. Attend their liturgies and vespers.

I plan on starting the process in the next 12-18 months to become Maronite, at Abouna’s request. If I knew there was a Maronite parish in my area, I would have went there instead of the Latin one. Oh well.

I don’t even understand what Maronite is? There is a Maronite parish on the other side of town from me and a Ukrainian Catholic parish.

Formosus as well, right? He is planning the change as well I think.

Maronite Catholic. I am a Maronite Catholic. We are part of the Syriac tradition of Christianity and just like the Ruthenians and the Ukranians we are in communion with the pope. The Ruthenians and Ukranians are part of the Byzantine tradition. The Byzantines use the Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom we use the Liturgy of St. James which is the predecessor of that of St. John Chrysostom. You should check out the Maronite liturgy if you can.

I would like to however it is about 30 minutes away from me and would have to cross downtown, sadly I don’t have that much money for gas. 😛

Yeah that is the plan 😃

Perhaps in the thread from the Trad forum, they were confusing ritual church transfer for priests?

No, you are not wrong. I just posted a reply there. I have gone though the process before, so I know that there is nothing which prohibits a change of rite in Cannon law.

God Bless,
Rosemary
