If God is outside of time as we know it, and Heaven is the domain of God, is Heaven also outside of time as we know it?

If the answer is yes, are the other residents of heaven also outside of time as we know it? If so, can a resident of heaven just as easily view the stone age as the middle ages as the present as the future?

If so, If I die in a state of communion with God and eventually go to heaven will I be able to look down and see me as I am today? If so will I be able to pray to God on behalf of the earthly living me? If so could I be looking out for myself at this very moment? Obviously not as an actual angel but in a guardian angel type of role.

Although yes to the “outside of time” fact, angels are altogether different creatures created by God. They are different from humans and different from human souls. Therefore when you die your soul cannot become an angel for the same way an angel cannot become human. The two are totally different and cannot become the other so, no you cannot be your own guardian angel. 😦

God is outside of time and He has no location. He is “in” Heaven, but He is also “in” Hell and “on” Earth. No place is absent from Him. Angels are outside of time AS WE KNOW IT, but are subject to their own kind of time known as aeveternity. Time is a measure of change, and the angels as created beings are subject to change, and hence they are subject to time. No, they cannot view the past and future of the world as one as God can.

In Heaven, you will have a better perspective of your life than you do now, but you will be perceiving it as a past event. No, once in Heaven, you cannot pray for yourself. For one thing, that would violate all concepts of causality and damage any legitimate view of Free Will.

I agree with that. Good post IMHO.

Yes, I agree with that as well.

I think when we die and go to Heaven (assuming we get to go to Heaven, that is). I think when that happens, we will be able to see ourselves and recall any past events, memories, etc. And we may be able to watch the lives of others (others, ie - friends and family we may have left behind).

Also if we had the omnipotence to view the future, I think it would take away the joy of watching things unfold, not knowing how things would play out. If one already knew the future before the outcome occured, it would certianly rob the element of suspense. Therefore, I think it just - if we are able to see past and present…but not future.

All this assuming you get to Heaven, of course.

Ah Yes. And not only all of that, but we will have ‘choices’ - as God Himself has Choices. For is it not said that we will be like Him!

God Bless…

But in the future, in heaven, do we get to view the past? and if so can we pray for our past selves as we watch them?

No. We would view the past as past. We would not view the past as present, which would be required to do what you suggest.

Since in heaven we are no longer in time or space we may well have a bird’s eye view of our lives and we know what we have done cannot be changed. So there’s no point in praying for our past selves!

Why couldn’t we make an apeal to our Heavenly Father who is greater than time?

We would still be in time, we just wouldn’t measure it the same way that we do now.

no angels are a different order of being and are pure spirit. You are human, a union of body and spirit. Angels don’t become human. Humans don’t become angels.

Yes, but the question had to do with the separated soul–after death, but before the Resurrection. During that time, we would operate as pure spirit, and so using angels as an analogy is altogether appropriate.
